Bavarian Autosport FAQ
Bavarian Autosport announced on March 8th, 2019 that it has closed its doors and will no longer be conducting business. This ends a highly successful 45-year run as one of the premier BMW parts houses in the world and as a standard bearer for our industry.

In the interest of looking after their customers and carrying on Bavarian Autosport's proud commitment to BMW and Mini enthusiasts, BavAuto reached out to ECS Tuning to see if we could lend a hand.

We at ECS have come up with a plan to help maintain BavAuto's legacy and assist BavAuto's customers during the transition by:

Honoring all BavAuto gift cards through April 30, 2019.
Providing warranty support for Bavarian Autosport branded merchandise
Maintaining BavAuto's longstanding support for BMW CCA chapters across the country

Bavarian Autosport is closing

I received an email from Bavarian Autosport yesterday the 8th March in the early afternoon:

"With a heavy heart, Bavarian Autosport is sad to announce that we’ve closed our doors after 45 wonderful years. We have loved being part of your ommunity as we’ve built, raced, and repaired our cars together.

We are working on options to ensure that the Bavarian Autosport name will live on. Until then, thank you for your dedication and commitment to us over all these years."
I currently have an order pending with them and had emailed them two days prior, asking for an update on order-status. Now I wonder if I'll ever receive the order at all.

I'm wondering if anyone on this forum is in a similar situation, and if they've heard anything from BavAuto.

Thanks all,

The news was surprising and unexpected. On March 8, 2019, after 45 years, Portsmouth based Bavarian Autosport shut down the call center and closed it’s doors forever. This was sad news for me. Bavarian Autosport, or BavAuto as they were known in the industry, was a catalog company centered around the BMW and MINI brands. And, they were my first big corporate client. I had my first shoot for them in the fall of 2013. At the time I was still slinging checking accounts for a large bank and I was just trying to get this photography thing off the ground. Somehow my business card landed on the desk of creative director, and all around fantastic person, Nancy Kanner and she decided to take a risk with a local, green photographer. Thankfully that first shoot went well and led to my working with them at least once per year after that.

For the last 6 years I could open any BavAuto catalog and pick out a number of images I’d created for them. I have always found seeing my work in print to be a huge confidence boost so I looked forward to receiving the quarterly catalogs in the mail and flipping through the pages to see what they had used. But, most of all, I liked working with Nancy and the other people in the BavAuto creative department. I am really going to miss working with them and hope they all land firmly on their feet doing bigger and better things.

Below is a very small selection of some of my favorites from the work I did for BavAuto with a few behind the scenes photos thrown in.

Bavarian Autosport was the trade name of Bavarian Auto Service, Inc., an award-winning mail-order and internet retailer of replacement parts, upgrades and accessories for BMW and MINI automobiles. It had one retail store at its headquarters in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Bavarian Auto Service was founded in 1973 as an automotive service center specializing in the repair and modification of BMW automobiles. Its first location was in Stratham, New Hampshire. In 1977 it moved to Newmarket, New Hampshire. In addition to repair services, the company began to offer an inventory of new and used parts that BMW enthusiasts in the northeastern United States could purchase to do their own repairs and modifications. In the late 1970s, it began to advertise its BMW parts and accessories throughout North America. In 1983 it produced its first catalog. In 1996 the company moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where it had built a three-story warehouse. That same year it began operating under the name Bavarian Autosport.

The company's website was launched in 1996. It became an e-commerce site in 2001. When BMW launched the new MINI in 2002, the company began offering parts and accessories for MINIs as well. In 2003, the company launched a quarterly newsletter that contains step-by-step do-it-yourself repairs, in-depth product features and a technical Q&A with “Bavarian Otto”, a cartoon character developed to make automotive repairs and maintenance seem less intimidating.[1] In 2008, the company started posting many of these Q&A online at blog.BavAuto.com, a searchable, online knowledgebase that now contains more than 1,000 Q&A and dozens of D.I.Y. videos. As of 2016, Bavarian Autosport was still owned and operated by the three friends who founded the company.[2][3][4]

Closure[edit]

On March 8, 2019, Bavarian Autosport announced via its Facebook page that after 45 years in business, they would be closing their doors.[5]

We sat in the back seats. My wife and sister sat with their backs to the driver, and I was in front of my sister. We chatted about nothing, and sometimes my wife and sister whispered about some secrets. I noticed that her sister was acting strangely in the presence of her wife. We had more than once hooked up with her, but, in my opinion, only I and my wife's sister knew about this, but then she began.

The girl burst out laughing and hid her smile with her hands. - The guy was indignant and without thinking twice, he got up, unbuttoning his pants. He swayed, and he, now and then, grabbed the edge of the table. The girls were laughing heartily. Well, come on, come on, show your morel.
