BMW M3 (F80) specs

You kids keep saying that the inline 6 has a tradition in the m3 and so on. First m3 - the e30 had a 4cylinder in the same chasis that carried 2,5l inline sixes. Yes the 4banger made more hp, yes it had less torque and narrower powerband. The second gen had a and later a liter inline six with vanos. At this point, when you don't know what vanos is, you should proceed to another hobby. There was no US version of these, because the US rip-off was a joke. I mean, get rid of individual throttle bodies and vanos for money saving purposes. The third gen, e46 had a inline six again, then came a V8 and now an inline six. What you kids need to realize is, that there is no traditional engine for any car in bmw lineup and the M badge makes no difference. They would send out e39 bmw 5s with tiny 4bangers, slant sixes, lumpy v8s, they would put a 3cyl in the i8 and so on.
The engine type and layout decision IS LARGELY DECIDED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF A RACING SERIES AND BY AN EU DECISION ON WHAT IS EFFICIENT AND GREEN. That is why we have 3cyl front wheel drive mpv and suvs with the bmw logo on them. But be thankful for such cars, since they can feed the investors and make the comitees happy and they then go and sign a project as the m2. Which in my eyes is the same old recipe e46 size and weight with a bonkers engine and you just need to forgive them that shift auto blip bs. The russians need to hack that n then you would gladly forget about the seats not being mounted str8.

BMW M3 (F80) -

After four generations with M3 in various forms, the fifth-generation of the performance model from BMW was available as a four-door sedan only.

The German car-maker decided to name the coupe versions with even numbers. So, the 3-Series coupe became 4-Series. But that didn&#;t mean to throw away the M3 badges. Those were applied to the four-door BMW 3-Series.

In , BMW announced the sportiest version of the 3-Series, the M3. On the outside, it looked different than the rest of the stable, featuring a new front bumper with a bigger spoiler and wider side-pods as air-intakes. On the front fenders, a set of air-vents enhanced the look of the car, and minimized turbulences in the front wheel arches. Unlike its predecessor, which ad a bulge on the hood due to its massive V8 engine, the M3 had a smaller one more for design purposes and for pedestrian protection. A specific set of 18” light-alloy wheels was installed on the car. In the back, there were four exhausts under the diffuser, which was specifically designed for the M3.

Inside, the M3 showed its family roots in the motorsport arena. High-bolstered seats, special steering wheel, special instrument cluster, and the three-color of the M badge spread around the cabin, on the seats, on the gear-stick, and on the dials.

The M3, also known as the F80, was the first turbocharged BMW M3. It featured an inline-six unit under the hood. Its liter displacement was smaller than the former liter V8 of the E92 M3. But it offered more power and more torque than the model it replaced. It was mated as standard to a 6-speed manual and there was an option for a 7-Speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

BMW M3 Expert Review

Zach Gale

The refreshed BMW M3 gains a revised exterior design, an updated navigation system, new LED taillights, and ambient lighting in the center stack. Comfort Access keyless entry, satellite radio, and the Harman/Kardon audio system are now standard in the M3.

The BMW M3 is the high-performance variant of the 3 Series sedan and comes exclusively in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. A coupe and convertible variant called the M4 is also available.

A hp liter twin-turbo I-6 with lb-ft of torque is the only engine available in the M3 and it can be paired to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel economy is respectable for a high performance sports sedan at 17/26 mpg city/highway with the manual and 17/24 mpg with the automatic. There's 12 cubic feet of trunk space in the M3 and it can be expanded via the standard split folding rear seats.

In addition to the standard dual front, side-front, and side curtain airbags, the M3 also comes with knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. The Driver Assistance Plus package adds more safety aids including blind spot warning, side and top view cameras, and the Active Driving Assistant, a system the bundles together forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and pedestrian detection.

The M3 comes in a single well-equipped package featuring inch alloy wheels, HID headlights, way power adjustable sport seats, split-folding rear seats, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, heated front seats, and keyless entry/start as standard. Optional extras include adaptive full LED headlights, a head-up display, a rearview camera, adaptive suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and parking sensors.

In a First Drive review, we said that the M3 is a proper M car, offering engaging driving dynamics. On the track, the car impresses thanks to its chassis, which keeps it flat on turns and enables it to handle extremely well. The twin-turbo I-6 has a lot of grunt, giving the M3 a lot of power at any speed while the twin-clutch automatic shifts quickly and seamlessly. However, due to the car's track-focused performance, the ride is very firm even in its softest setting. Steering feel is also lacking, as there's little indication at what the front wheels are doing because of the electric power steering unit. In a comparison test that also included the Cadillac ATS-V and Mercedes-AMG C63 S, the M3 placed third because of its overly aggressive stability control system and for the fact that it didn't inspire much driver confidence compared to the ATS-V and the C63 S. Additionally, there was no ideal setting despite the extensive ways to customize the car's driving dynamics.

The F80 M3 is the first M3 sedan to come standard with a carbon fiber roof.

  • Cadillac ATS-V
  • Mercedes-AMG C63
  • Lexus RC F

Above that I get uncomfortable mostly because, for me, I have the strong feeling I'm going much faster than I can react to anything: road debris, other cars doing stupid shit, etc.

About 40 minutes after I left the Welt a dude signaled into the left lane, started moving over such that I had to lay on the brakes, and then kept moving left until he rammed into the median barrier and almost flipped the car. A bunch of rocks and debris took tiny gouges out of my new individual paint and dinged up the windshield.

Anyway, I'm glad I wasn't going when that happened.
