    • Continue turning the drain plug with the 16 mm socket wrench or box end wrench until it is snug.

    • Only tighten the drain plug until it is snug. Over-tightening the oil drain plug can strip the threads or crack the oil pan.

    Edit

  • Locate the oil filter. It is on the bottom side of the engine, towards the driver's side of the truck and behind the front bumper.Move the oil drain pan below the oil filter so that it will catch any oil that drips down when the oil filter is removed.

    Edit

  • Wet the tip of a clean gloved finger with fresh oil and spread the oil around the new oil filter's seal.Place the threaded end of the oil filter onto the engine's oil filter threads, being careful to not get dirt or debris on the filter's gasket.Turn the filter clockwise by hand until it is snug.

    • If the filter is difficult to turn at the beginning of its threads, stop! You may be cross threading the oil filter. Re-align the oil filter and try again.

    • Do not over-tighten your oil filter by using a wrench. Doing so may cause the oil filter seal to leak and will make removing the oil filter very difficult in the future.

    • Remove the oil drain pan from underneath the truck.

    • This is not your actual oil level, but a pre-check to make sure the engine will not run dry when you first start it. The oil level will drop slightly after the first run when oil fills the new oil filter.

  • Start the truck and look for leaks under the truck. If there are leaks, shut the truck off and determine if the drain plug or filter need to be tightened, or if a part has been damaged. After running the engine for a few minutes, let it cool down for at least an hour and re-check the oil level. If the oil level is more than a 1/2" above the top of the "safe" section of the dipstick, you will need to drain oil. If the oil level is below the "safe" section of the dipstick you will need to add oil.

    • Place your old oil filter face down in your oil drain pan and allow 12-24 hours for all the oil to drain out.

    • Take your old oil and filter to a recycling facility. Most auto parts stores and repair shops accept these at no charge. In addition, some cities and/or counties have a service where they will collect used oil and filters from your home. For more information, see the American Petroleum Institute's web page on used motor oil collection and recycling.

    1987 Dakota 3.9L 6-cyl --- Amsoil Synthetic Oils
    IP: Logged

    Message:

    Doug,

Top Quality $5 filter, then Bosch Super Premium or Wix. Reasons: Top notch construction, good filtering, and good flow. (The PureOne is in this price range too, but I've got issues with restricted flow in the PureOne because of the densely packed media.)

Superior Quality $7 filter (preferred customer price) Amsoil SDF oil filter ... especially with extended drains.

    Motor Oil

Non Synthetic --- Castrol Syntec is not a REAL synthetic ... it is a Group III hydrocracked conventional petroleum (dino) oil with a small amount of Group IV synthetic blended in. The Castrol is a "PRETEND" synthetic --- but probably one of the best fake synthetic oils.

    Synthetic Motor Oils ---

Mobil1, a TRUE synthetic. Only oils manufactured with Group IV and Group V base oils are TRUE Synthetics. For the record, if anyone is using Mobil1 "0w-XX" ... I don't care much for Mobil1 0w-30. I know some vehicles that have had consumption issues with it. Not sure why. I like the specs of their 0w-40 better.

Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oil --- A TRUE SYNTHETIC --- Thanks Larry, but might I suggest -- Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil (Product Code TSO), or SAE 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (Product Code ATM) --- True Group IV / Group V Synthetic Motor Oils.

hey, you might want to put a product called "restore" in with every oil change. its blue stuff that comes in a can, you'll wanna make sure you get the one for a V6, and you can get it at any place you can get oil and its supposed to make your engine run stronger for longer. i use it and ive got 106,000 miles with no engine problems yet and i drive it pretty damn hard!

The cheapest place to get that is also walmart

Steven that is what I meant seris 2000

the caseroil just the reg stuff

I used to run all penzoil years ago untill I found
out about the parifan wax they add to the oil it
just turned me off to pensoil

Than I went to casteroil GTX not there syn and
hade very good luck with it.

Than I found Amsoil and have been with that for
about 4 or 5 years now and very good luck with
the Amsoil its in everything I own even my john
deere lawn tractor and all my equipment is als
greased with Amsoil syn with moly

Seams I have no probs with bearings going bad or
any probs at all using the Amsoil grease used to
use just reg grease and did replace a lot of
bearings and damaged shafts on equipment

Its more expensive but in the long run I have
saved hundreds on repairs I no longer have to do

I use 5/30 synthetic in mine and it's lasted 338,000 miles so far. I change the oil once a year, but the filter I change every 5-6K miles. When I DO change the oil I pour a little Sea-foam in the crankcase about 500 miles before I plan to change it.
You can obviously use 5/30...look at the print on your oil fill cap.

    Message:
Oil for a 2000 Dodge Dakota is 10w30 and filter is a Fram ph16.
I know this because I have own a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a
3.9l v6. You can also use 5w30, which makes it easier to start
    in the winter.

I turned to leave. but one of my companions told me not to rush. the time is still childish. and I will like what we will do. at first I wanted to scream.

How To Change Transmission Oil and Filter - Dodge - Ram - Jeep - Dakota - Durango

Putting on the dress, Arsigan pulled down her trousers, completing the change of outfit. She tried to examine her dress, straightening it on her body. The dress fit the girl, emphasizing the beauty of her hips and the slenderness of her legs, opening up a tempting. View of the charms of Arsigan. Dazhan smiled contentedly, this is better, much better.

He wanted to keep peeping, but then a sound was heard from the other room. He cautiously walked on and looked into another room. There, a girl was lying on the bed and apparently asleep.
