The Xfinity Comcast Stream is an app that allows you to use any compatible device as a TV and stream whatever you want to watch.

This includes any popular series, movies, live sports, and news.

However, my primary entertainment system is the Apple TV, so I needed to know if I could watch Xfinity Comcast Stream on Apple TV.

I’ve built my entire entertainment center around the Apple TV, which I’ve added to my preferred smart home platform, HomeKit.

Now, I can do almost anything on my Apple TV, from watching shows on streaming services to talking to people through my video doorbell.

So anything I decide to use has to be compatible with Apple TV. If not, I do the research and try to find workarounds.

Currently, the Xfinity Stream app isn’t available for Apple TV. However, you can log in to your Xfinity account on a Web Browser and authorize your Apple TV to access channels on your Plan by entering the code into the custom URLto stream Xfinity.

Does the Apple TV Natively Support Xfinity Comcast?

Right now, there is no Xfinity Comcast Stream App designed specifically for Apple TV.

The app is available on iOS, however, for the iPhone and iPad. However, you can’t use AirPlay to Mirror your Screen to your Apple TV anymore.

Comcast Workaround for Watching Xfinity Comcast Stream on Apple TV

While the Xfinity Stream App is available for iOS and iPadOS, it isn’t available for tvOS.

Xfinity also blocks you from Mirroring your screen from the Xfinity Stream app to the Apple TV.

While both companies blame each other and neither is willing to budge as of yet, this leaves us with few options as subscribers to Xfinity and owners of Apple TVs.

But there are still a few tricks left for us.

While the Authentication System set in place isn’t publicly visible, you can still visit these portals and activate channels on your Xfinity Subscription while on your Apple TV if you know the URLs.

Follow these steps:

  1. Launch a web browser and visit the official Xfinity website, and log in to your account.
  2. Go to channel on your Apple TV that you have on your Xfinity Subscription Plan.
  3. When you’re trying to sign, an activation code appears. Note down this code.
  4. If you try to open the channel again, you’ll get a URL on top. Edit the URL and enter your activation code in the field “authenticate?reg_code=”. Ensure that all the letters in the code are in upper case.
  5. It can take up to 30 seconds to authorize, but it’s done you should be able to watch TV as usual.

To watch another channel you’ll have to authorize it as well by following the same process.

While this works right now, you might notice that it doesn’t in the future. Do let me know if it doesn’t work for you and I’ll figure something else out.

Alternative Media Streamers and Smart TVs That Support Xfinity Comcast Stream

You may be wondering if there are other Smart TVs out there that do natively support Xfinity Comcast Stream.

Smart TVs like FireTV, select Samsung Smart TVs, and Roku do support Xfinity Stream.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind regarding the Xfinity Comcast Stream app’s compatibility with the aforementioned Smart TVs.

To use the Xfinity Stream app on Roku devices, FireTV, and select Samsung Smart TVs, you’ll have to use the Xfinity Stream Beta App.

Furthermore, this app’s compatibility with Sony Smart TV and LG Smart TV has not yet been announced.

The beta version of this app offers limited features, and some features you might be used to are not accessible, such as:

  • The Pay Per View event rental feature
  • The Control feature through the Xfinity Remote
  • TV show rentals and the movie rental option through the Xfinity On Demand feature is only available on Roku. Not on FireTV and select Samsung Smart TVs.
  • Streaming channels and apps such as YouTube, Pandora, and Netflix are not accessible. However, these can be accessed if they are available on the partner device platform.
  • Xfinity apps that are available on X1, such as xFi, My Account, and Voicemail

How to Watch Apple TV on Xfinity

The Apple TV App lets you watch shows on your Apple TV Plus Subscription.

While the Apple TV is available on certain Smart TVs from Samsung, Vivo, LG, Sony, and Vizio, and game consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One.

It isn’t available on the Xfinity X1 Cable Box or Xfinity Flex.

As of now, there is no way to watch Apple TV on Xfinity.

How to Cast from iPhone to Xfinity TV

Casting from your iPhone to Xfinity TV is actually disable on your Xfinity X1 Cable Box and Xfinity Flex by default. To activate it, follow these steps:

  1. Press the xfinity button on your Xfinity remote. Use the home button on your Xfinity Flex.
  2. Navigate to the gear icon using the arrow buttons, then press OK to go to Settings.
  3. Navigate to the Privacy Section, then press OK.
  4. Under Mobile Video Casting, change the setting and press OK again.

You can now cast media from your iPhone off the Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube apps to your Xfinity X1 Cable Box or Xfinity Flex.

This is so long as your iPhone and Cable Box are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Note that you can’t cast anything to the RNG150 and Pace XG1v1 X1 TV Boxes as they don’t support it.

While, unfortunately, Apple TV does not have its own Xfinity Comcast Stream app.

This app is compatible with the iPhone and iPad, for iOS versions more recent than iOS 11.0.

However, you can log in on a Web Browser as a workaround to authorize your Apple TV to access channels on your Xfinity Subscription.

While you won’t have to keep logging in each time you visit the channel, you might find that every two weeks your authorization has expired and you’ll have to follow the procedure again.

The Xfinity Stream app is also compatible with Android 5 or later. So, if you’re looking to have Xfinity Comcast and you’re fine with any platform, I’d recommend getting a Roku. For $35, it’s a solid deal.

If you don’t really want to deal with this sort of thing, you might want to look into the best TVs that work with Xfinity.

Comcast’s Xfinity Stream App Deployed to Amazon Fire TV

Amazon on Thursday announced that Comcast’s Xfinity Stream app is now supported by Amazon Fire TV devices, as well as Fire TV Edition smart TVs.

The Xfinity Stream app lets Comcast Cable TV subscribers access all of the live, on demand and DVR programming that’s part of their Xfinity TV subscription. The app includes personalized recommendations alongside curated collections of movies and shows to help subscribers figure out what to watch.

The Xfinity Stream has been available for Roku since it launched way back in February 2017. It has since gained support from the native operating systems of Samsung and LG smart TVs, but little other compatibility was available otherwise.

One key difference for Comcast customers using Xfinity Stream through Fire TV--voice-wise, they interact with Alexa, not the Comcast X1 Voice Remote.

Amazon last week said that its Fire TV platform now has 50 million monthly active users.

“With the availability of the Xfinity app, we continue to broaden the utility and reach of Fire TV for our customers, said Matt Clark, Amazon entertainment devices and services director of business development, in a statement.

Xfinity Stream App Guide

Watch TV at home using Xfinity Stream

Sure, Xfinity Stream is a mobile app. But what happens when someone in your house is hogging the good TV and the crappy backup? That’s right: you sit in the corner, plug in your earbuds, and stream to your mobile device.

Since Xfinity Stream gives you five simultaneous streams at home, it accommodates up to four more disappointed family members/roommates. And everybody can watch every live, local, X1, pay-per-view, and adult channel—plus Xfinity On Demand titles and DVR recordings.

You can also cast to a TV at home with a Google Chromecast—assuming there’s a free TV in the house. And even then, you may not need to cast if you already have Xfinity on that TV. So could casting be a better on-the-go option? Hmm . . . .

Watch TV on-the-go with Xfinity Stream

Xfinity Stream doesn’t let you watch quite as much content when you’re away from home—but it’s still overflowing with stuff to watch. The main differences:

Xfinity Stream on the go (in a nutshell)

  • Depending on your package, you’ll have up to about 60 fewer channels to watch on the go.
  • The only local channels you can watch on the go are ABC, NBC, FOX, Univision, Unimás, and Telemundo—No CBS or The CW.
  • Some Xfinity On Demand titles aren’t available on the go.
  • You can’t watch some of your X1 subscription channels, pay-per-view channels, or adult channels. But much of that content is best suited to home viewing, isn’t it?
  • You get only three simultaneous streams (instead of five) on the go.

That’s still a ton of content to watch on the go, and a healthy amount of ways to watch it. And if you take all of those movies and shows to a friend’s house along with a Google Chromecast, you can still watch it on a big screen.

Watch offline with Xfinity Stream

Xfinity Stream also allows you to download titles for offline viewing, so you can watch anywhere, even if you don’t have access to Wi-Fi or mobile data. Watching offline can come in handy at home too, since it saves bandwidth when everyone is home and online.

But one warning about downloads: if you sign out of Xfinity Stream, the app deletes all of your mobile downloads. Fortunately, it’ll warn you before this happens.

Watch Xfinity Stream free

If you’re an Xfinity internet-only customer but don’t have a channel package, you can use Xfinity Stream to watch select titles free. Much of it’s free for a reason (read: it’s low quality), but there’s also good stuff.

Free content available on Xfinity Stream:

  • A handful of live channels: Cheddar, Dust, HSN2, QVC, Shout Factory TV, SkyNews, Tastemade, and Stingray Music Channels
  • Select on-demand episodes of TV series, including kids programming
  • First episodes of series from CINEMAX®, EPIX, HBO®, SHOWTIME®, and STARZ®
  • 300+ free movies—mostly Spanish-language and LGBTQ+ titles

You can also check out Xfinity bundles to see what TV packages you can add for more entertainment options.

Filter content with Xfinity Stream

There’s so much content on Xfinity Stream that you need filters. Otherwise, you’re gonna spend your precious couch time browsing instead of watching. We wish Xfinity Steam would allow you to filter by genre, but no streaming app is perfect, right?

Stream allows you to filter for the following criteria:

  • Available for download
  • High Definition (HD)
  • Closed Captioning (CC)
  • Secondary Audio (SAP)

Manage parental controls with Xfinity Stream

Kids are smart. They can get into trouble when left to their own devices.

Plenty of kids have phones or tablets nowadays, and the accompanying internet access. And the internet’s just flooded with nefarious content and bad influences (probably TikTok, jk).

Stream helps you protect your brood by allowing you to restrict content based on ratings, channels, and titles. That’s an excellent way to supplement good ole parental supervision.

Manage devices and downloads with Xfinity Stream

So Xfinity Stream allows five simultaneous streams at home and three outside of the house. What happens when your account has reached its device limit and you wanna watch Mystery Science Theater 3000? If you’re the boss of your Xfinity account, you give someone else the boot right from the app.

The same goes for your downloaded content. Xfinity Stream allows only one downloaded copy of a title at a time. It must be “returned” before someone else in your household can download it on their device. So if somebody’s bogarting Revenge of the Bridesmaids, you can “return” it for them—and then check it out yourself.

Me and my husband went on vacation and I was wondering what I could do to watch my shows without getting so far behind on them. Also I have a lot of channels and me and my husband loves football and the place we was staying didn’t have all the stations we needed to watch football so I looked up on the internet to see if there was a way to watch my shows without being at home and I found this app and it has changed everything for me. That week I was able to enjoy my vacation with my hubby and stay up to date on my shows. Plus watch all the football games we wanted. It was so nice. Also being a mom my kids always have the TVs occupied and having 3 kids who like different things all the TVs are always occupied so now I can watch my tv on my phone at any time and any where. I never have to use the tv again and honestly I don’t because I have it on my phone: this is the best thing Xfinity could of ever done. I literally can watch all my recorded shows or live tv. I couldn’t be any happier with this app

Sound only option & ability to run in background/Lock Screen needed.

Please allow the app to play in the background as well as in lock screen mode. There are times I want to sleep to a TV but get blinded with the light that comes off it. With my iPad or iPhone I could listen to TV without that annoying bright screen in my face. Sadly you have to leave your device turned on to listen to the program. When you turn your device off during a program, you only get a few seconds before the app mutes itself. This could be a bad thing because if you leave your device turned on It can make it hot or run down the battery. T The ability to run the app in the background or in the lock screen (without video playing) would make it easier do use at night while trying to sleep. Plus if you're blind you can't see the video anyways. So to be able to have the video switched to sound only would make a huge difference for those who want sound only while using the app.

I definitely love that Xfinity went the extra mile to make the app voiceover accessible for those who are blind. As well as contrasting colors for those who are visually impaired. However, I would like to see the app be compatible for those who have large print enable on their devices.

Otherwise I love the app but it could definitely use some tweaking.

Xfinity Streaming has not worked yet!

I have had mine since Feb 20th and still can’t stream. From what I can tell you can download the streaming app on newer versions of my TV in the family room but mine is 7 years old but still a 55” LG Smart TV. I mainly started my service back up because I desperately needed the Internet to job hunt and that is where all my time has been spent (easy when your Cable isn’t working). I paid extra for the 300 mb/sec so I would be prepared to accept any type of position available including work from home, independent consultation, or partial commute. That is when the sales rep talked about the awesome streaming app and no monthly fee for equipment because there are no cable boxes for every TV. The 300 mb/sec Internet comes with a different router than other plans and it is also required for the streaming app service. The sales rep really unsold here on the service and by lowering my monthly bill due to no charges for each cable TV box, that is what sold me on this plan. Sales reps should verify over phone the make/model of your electronic equipment to ensure compatible for streaming services to work as intended for optimal performance. This would make sure customers have a good experience getting up and running efficiently and effectively with the new service being introduced. Plus, it is just the right thing to do.
