Talk to Sable A Lot

Keep talking to Sable until she becomes friendly and gives you patterns she made herself! You won't seem these as Custom Design slots but when you go to customize furniture you'll have more game provided options, like a cute pizza pattern!

Make Your Own Designs

Making your own designs is straight forward. Just open the Custom Designs app and select a blank square (or a pattern you made earlier that you want to edit). Then, simply edit it! Color in the square to make your design a reality.

Keep in mind you can unlock Pro Designs (allowing you to make specific kinds of clothes) by buying it at the Nook Shop.

Scan and Download QR Codes

You can use the real-world Nintendo Switch Online App to import old custom designs from Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, and anywhere you can find on the web! Including sites like acpatterns.com which can convert any image into a downloadable QR code. You'll need the Nintendo App (NookLink) to do this!

How to Use The Nintendo App (NookLink) to Scan QR Codes

To get designs from New Leaf, Happy Home Designer, or anywhere on the internet you will have to use a real world app and an in-game app. Below are the steps!

1. Open the Nintendo Switch app > ACNH (aka NookLink) > Select Custom Designs to scan QR codes of custom designs and patterns created in New Leaf or Happy Home Designer.

2. Scan and download/save them via NookLink. This one was shared on Twitter by @luulubuu.

3. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons open the Custom Designs app and press the (+) to actually download the design. You can select and override an existing or empty slot! The choice is yours.

4. Once it's downloaded you can Wear it (Top, Face Paint), Display it (Mannequin, Painting, Canvas, Hanger, Tile Mat), or Spread in Room (Wall, Floor).

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes preloaded with a huge choice of beautiful clothes, you can use Custom Designs to build a look that truly reflects your individuality.

Using QR codes you can download the best creations from around the world through the magic of black-and-white squares: including fresh clothes, fun flags, and even special fabrics and floors that are easy to add to your island home.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons QR Codes - How to download NookLink

Before you can get started with QR Codes, you’ll need a smart device with access to either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. This can be a smartphone or tablet.

Also, to get NookLink and scan Animal Crossing New Horizons QR Codes on your Nintendo Switch, you will need to pay for the premium Nintendo Switch Online service. It costs £18, 20€, or $20 for a full year for a single account - or £31.49, 35€, or $35 for a family pass of 8 accounts.

It can be purchased from the official Nintendo site, here. Yes, it’s not ideal, but Tom Nook’s fabulous Hawaiian shirts don’t pay for themselves.

Don’t make the mistake of just searching “NookLink” in your app store of choice. To download and scan Animal Crossing: New Horizons QR codes, you need to first download the “Nintendo Switch Online” App.

Once you’ve downloaded the app onto your device, you need to sign in with the Nintendo account you have linked to the console you play Animal Crossing on.

Next, you need to prepare Animal Crossing on your Switch console. Open Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Switch, then press “-” (minus) on the title screen.

This opens the settings menu, where you’ll be able to enable NookLink in the NookLink settings.

With your smart device and console linked, you will now be able to transfer items generated by Animal Crossing: New Horizons QR codes between the two.

Go into your New Horizons game and you will be able to use the “Custom Designs” app on your Nookphone. To unlock the Pro part of the app - which lets you put designs on clothes other than tank tops - you need to visit the Nook Stop at Residential Services and unlock it with 800 Nook Miles.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Custom Designs - How to open the Able Sisters' Shop

After a few days on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island, you will be able to upload your own custom designs once you gain access to the Able Sisters’ shop. They’ll give you your creator code and access to the online portion where you can generate codes for your own designs.

QR Codes are for patterns generated by older Animal Crossing Games. If you make a new design in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you receive an alphanumeric code that you can input at the Able Sisters’ shop to get an item.

To open the Able Sisters' shop, you first need to speak to Mable when she visits your town plaza selling clothes. Spend bells on the designs she has available, and after a couple of visits she'll see the opportunity to open a full tailor's shop.

Once you've opened the Able Sisters' shop, remember to speak to Sable as well as Mable every single day. She'll be prickly at first, be eventually tell you more about her backstory and give you custom designs of her own.

How to use the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Custom Designs Kiosk

A couple of days after you've picked out a spot for the shop, it will open. Inside, head over to the back wall of the shop and you'll find a computer kiosk.

For flat prints, you will only need one QR code. But if the design is stretched out over a 3-d object like a t-shirt, then you will need 4 QR codes to catch each side. Otherwise, just input the code at the Able Sisters for freshly created patterns.

How to Make, Share, and Use Other Players' Custom Designs

The Custom Designs app lets you make your own designs or download some via QR codes. Once you unlock the Able Sisters shop you can approach the Kiosk and Post any of your custom designs, Search by Design ID, or Search by Creator ID. You need a paid subscription to Nintendo Online to access this feature.

You can "wear" any of the QR code designs you download (from New Leaf or a third party, fanmade site like ACPatterns) on a generic top or face paint. (You can also put them on the ground/floor, walls, or in canvas form). If scanning a Pro Design, you can wear it as a dress, robe, etc but all other Designs will be relegated to being a "custom design" instead of a more versatile Pro Design.

And until you get the Able Sisters shop there's now way to directly share the designs originally made in ACNH.

So this Able Sisters Kiosk lets you get and share designs originally made in Animal Crossing: New Horizons via a Creator ID or individual Design ID. This even includes pro designs! Which can be garments such as tops (tank top, short sleeve, long-sleeve dress shirt, sweater, hoodie, coat) dresses (sleeveless, short-sleeve, long sleeve, round, balloon-hem, robe), and hats (brimmed cap, knit cap, and brimmed hat). It’s widely known the only thing you can take away from other islands through dreams is custom designs, however, with the Custom Design Kiosk being updated to allow searches via keyword, does it completely devalue the Dream Islands? If you’re just wanting to find some random patterns, like say wood or stone paths, villager portraits, etc, it’s so much more convenient to just use the Kiosk and search, rather than comb through island after island with codes you’ve collected.

True, it’s fun to get inspiration from other islands, but since they made it so you need a code, if you’re just wanting to search for some random creations, then the updated Kiosk is much better and faster than going through dreams.

Creating your own personal island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be overwhelming. With so many decorations, terraforming options, and custom designs available it’s easy to miss some of the coolest items out there. While we’ve already covered some ideas for your island and home, we will be highlighting a bunch of terrific custom paths made by community members. These can be laid out once your island reaches a three-star ranking and has K.K. Slider visit. This can take some time, especially if you aren’t using any time travel to speed through the days. Once you have paths unlocked, you can start collecting Custom Designs and using them to create unique walkways and roads for your citizens.

Keep in mind, there are hundreds upon hundreds of creations made by the community so if you’re looking for something specific there’s a chance it’s out there. Instead, we will be focusing on more general paths that can be used in a wide range of islands. We will largely be using the website Nook’s Island for our choices since this website has a rather large collection of custom designs. We recommend downloading different parts of the set so you can add some variation yo how your path is laid out. For example, instead of having all your rocks laid out in the same patter, mix it up with a few alternate ones to give it more variety and look authentic.

Laying down paths can be pretty time consuming, so try to plan where you want your roads and trails to go. The last thing you want is to put down an entire road only to realize you were off by a few feet. Measure twice, path once!

To scan / import images online in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll need two handy resources.

• The Nintendo Switch Online app on iOS or Android.
  • Download the Switch Online app for free here: iOS | Android

Uploading images to the Animal Crossing Pattern Tool website will generate a QR code for you to scan.

How To Use Nooklink

NookLink is the app you can activate in your in-gameAnimal Crossing: New Horizons smartphone. After uploading an image by scanning with the Nintendo Switch Online app in your IRL smartphone, you can download the file to use in-game with NookLink.

• To activate Nooklink, go to the main menu of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and press [-] to access Settings.
• Go to Nooklink settings and select ‘Yes, please.’

Now you can use Nooklink! You’ll need to make sure your Nintendo Switch Online app (on smartphone) is linked to your Nintendo Switch account. Once they’re properly linked, you can access the Designs feature.

How To Upload Custom Images / Designs To New Horizons

Once you’re all setup with your Nintendo Switch Online app on smartphone, have Nooklink activated in-game, and have an image you want to upload, here’s what you need to do to make the magic happen.

• Upload any image to the Animal Crossing Pattern Tool — you’ll get a lo-fi pic with a QR Code.
• Launch the Nintendo Switch Online app (on iOS or Android smartphones) and access the ‘Game-Specific Services’ area.
• Select Animal Crossing: New Horizons to find options — select ‘Designs‘ to scan your QR Code and upload the image as a design.
• Next, launch Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch and access your Nookphone in-game. Use the Nooklink app to download the designs you’ve uploaded!

In order for Mable to show up, you need to build Nook’s Cranny. Help Tommy build his shop by collecting required materials.

Step 2: Meet Mabel At Nook’s Cranny

After Nook’s Cranny opens, you can see Mabel talking with Tommy and Timmy. After this event, you will see Mable selling her goods in few days.

Step 4: Purchase Her Goods

After Mable shows up in the Plaza, purchase her products twice in different days. Then, she will ask you to help build Able Sisters after few days of your purchase.

Step 6: Able Sisters Shop Upgrades!

After you’ve decided the location of the Able Sisters, Able Sisters shop upgrades from pop-up vendor to a real shop!

7. Label Appears On Your Island

With the opening of the Able Sisters tailor shop, Label will drop by your island randomly. She will host a fashion event and can give you rewards depending on the fashion theme!

He will come to your island occasionally and sell random shoes, bags, and socks! His inventory is different every time, so make sure you buy it all whenever you see him.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I like to think that this would have happened with or without quarantine, but whatever the reason: it’s great. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has exceeded the cult status of its franchise history and become a genuine megahit, cementing itself as perhaps the definitive video game phenomenon of the coronavirus crisis. It’s spawned all sorts of real-world interactions, but this has to be my favorite. The Getty Museum has released a tool that will let you import its paintings into Animal Crossing through QR codes, and a whole lot of people are about to put a gallery room in their house.

The tool is live right now at the Getty website. Essentially, it takes a painting from the museum collection and shrinks it down to the size of a custom design in Animal Crossing, and then provides you with a QR Code to bring it into the game. There are a few paintings already up on the website, ready to go, but you can also go deeper and find your own.

The number in the headline is the number of artworks listed in Getty’s open access portal. But there are also tools for using artworks from other museums, if you don’t want to be limited by what the Getty has on offer.

If you need a refresher on how to use QR Codes in the game, here you go:

• 1) Get the Nintendo Switch Online app for your phone, and then sign in with the same account you use for the game.
• 2) Go into the settings in Animal Crossing and activate Nook Link.
• 3) Restart the Switch Online app, and Nook Link should now be active.
• 4) Open the ‘Designs’ app on your Nook Link.
• 5) Get some codes and scan them.
• 6) Go back into the game and open your Nook Phone. Select the custom designs app and get downloading the designs form the codes you scanned.

Within minutes you could be wearing impressionist classics as shirts, hanging them up on your walls, or scattering them all over the ground for a custom path. You could even replace your flag with a famous piece of art: mine is a preset and I should really get around to getting a new one. It’s a great idea, and a fun thing for the museum to be doing during this time.

After you’ve unlocked the Able Sisters Tailor Shop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you will have access to a Custom Design Kiosk, allowing you to upload and download custom designs made by other players. Here’s how to search, upload, and download custom designs in Animal Crossing.

Nintendo Online Subscription is Required to Access Designs

When you access the Custom Design Kiosk for the first time, you will be warned that only players with internet access and a paid Nintendo Online subscription can use the custom design feature. This is because the Custom Design Kiosk accesses designs that other players have uploaded to the internet by searching for their User ID or by typing in an ID for a specific design item.

There are two types of custom designs: Normal patterns and Pro Designs. Pro Designs are locked  within story progression and can be purchased with Nook Miles. Normal patterns have a variety of uses—you can place patterns on the ground, hang them on the walls in your house, or use them as wallpaper.

Pro Designs are crafted for a specific kind of clothing: dresses, sweaters, pants, etc. You can go absolutely crazy with detailing to make an impressively stylish outfit.

When searching for a custom design, the Creator ID will be displayed on the left and the custom design ID will be displayed on the right.

After connecting to the internet and accessing the main menu of the Custom Design kiosk, you will be presented with three options: “Search By Design ID,” “Search By Creator ID,” and “Post.”

By selecting the first option, you can search for specific custom designs.

Design IDs will always begin with an “MO.” All you have to type in are the remaining 12 characters.

If you like what you see, you can choose to save the design into an empty save slot in the Custom Designs app on your Nook Phone.

Search for Custom Designs by Creator ID

By selecting the “Search by Creator ID” option, you can look at a player’s entire custom design profile. Everything they’ve created and uploaded to the kiosk will be displayed on their profile.

Creator IDs will always begin with an “MA.” All you have to type in are the remaining 12 characters.

Post your Own Custom Designs Online

By selecting “Post” on the main menu, you can upload your own custom designs to the kiosk. Your Creator ID will be generated as you upload your first design to the Custom Design kiosk.

How to Use the Custom Designs

Whenever you want to use a design you’ve saved, open the Custom Design app on your Nook Phone by pressing the ZL button (the back-left shoulder button) and then press the physical “A” button on your right Joy-Con to view your saved designs and wear or display the design.

If you’re standing outside or inside your home, a few additional options will appear. For example, the “Display On Ground” option is useful for displaying any ground patterns you’ve downloaded.
