Legendary Herobrine seed finally found in ‘Minecraft’
The original seed from the Minecraft Herobrine story – a legendary creepypasta – has finally been located.
The story of Herobrine is familiar to many Minecraft fans as one that is intended to scare single-player mode gamers when they least expect it. The legend originated on a 4chan post in 2010, and was catapulted to notoriety when Minecraft streamer Copelan shared images that ‘proved’ the story to be true.
Herobrine is alleged to be a character that spawns in single-player mode, performing strange rituals like carving tunnels and hacking leaves from trees. He is distinguishable from the default Minecraft Steve by his white eyes that lack pupils, and odd movements. The creepypasta goes on to speculate that this is the dead brother of Minecraft creator Notch.
Notch, who never had a brother, and his game, which doesn’t include a character called Herobrine, have benefitted from the story, however, as many players racked up hours searching for him.
Lately, the Minecraft title screen seed was discovered after years of searching, so this reveal of the Herobrine seed is an exciting follow-up for fans of the game. Entering the seed on the game’s homepage will bring you to the world where the creepy character was first ‘spotted’, allowing fans to discover for themselves whether he exists or not.
The seed details are as follows:
Version: Java Alpha 1.0.16_02
Alpha coordinates: X=5.06 Y=71 (72.62 eye pos) Z=-298.54
Modern coordinates: X=5.16 Y=71 Z=-298.53
Camera angle: RX=93.75 RY=-1.2
The discovery has been attributed to [email protected]’s andrew_555 (Kminster). Fans on this thread are still looking for the original seed used in the first-ever trailer for Minecraft.
Minecraft's Herobrine world seed has been discovered
The seed to the world of Minecraft's fabled Herobrine has been discovered.
The seed was found last week by andrew_555, aka Kminster, who kicked off their search on 5th September, 2020. Kminster admitted it "probably about 50 hours in total for developing/writing the code", but eventually stumbled upon the world on 16th January.
"Ever since the first Herobrine Creepypasta, people have faked his world multiple times", teases the video description (see below). "So we used our seed cracking knowledge from Pack.png and the Minecraft panoramas to find the seed once and for all!"
"Note that Herobrine is not real and has never been, this is just the seed used for the original creepypasta image," a Minecraft moderator reminds posters on Reddit.
To visit yourself here are the details, although note you'll need Minecraft Java Edition with "historical versions" activated. Select version a1.0.16 and use this information, or download this prepared world file (thanks, PC Gamer):

Minecraft Herobrine world seed discovered: How to join the creepy world
Who is Minecraft's Herobrine?
First of all, the creepy character Herobrine is Minecraft folklore. He is a myth first made the rounds on Creepypasta back in 2010.
Herobrine became somewhat of Minecraft's version of Slenderman, with some players creating hoax images claiming to have spotted him.
(Picture: Glitchunpatched via Minecraft Gamepedia)
For those who are unaware, Herobrine looks like the default player skin, with ghost-white eyes, and exhibiting odd behaviour like digging 2x2 holes. It was also rumoured that Herobrine was a tribute to Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson's deceased brother.
Again, Herobrine isn't real. There was never a character like this in Minecraft, as explained by a moderator on Reddit: "Note that Herobrine is not real and has never been, this is just the seed used for the original creepypasta image."
However, the seed world in which the Herobrine hoax started is, in fact, real.
How to join the Minecraft Herobrine seed world
The Minecraft Herobrine seed world was found by Andrew_555, also known as Kminster. His search began on 5th September 2020, and as explained by Kminster, took roughly 50 hours of total work to develop and write the code in order to find the seed world.
Other major contributors (via Minecraftathome) to finding this creepy Minecraft seed world are Neil, BoySanic, polymetric, Dutchen18 & MC (PseudoGravity).
To join the Minecraft Herobrine seed world, you need the following details:
- Seed: 478868574082066804
- Version: Java Alpha 1.0.16_02

The Story of Herobrine
This is the most famous story about Herobrine:
I had recently spawned a new world in single-player Minecraft. Everything was normal at first as I began chopping down trees and crafting a workbench. I noticed something move amongst the dense fog (I have a very slow computer so I have to play with a tiny render distance). I thought it was a cow, so I pursued it, hoping to grab some hides for armor.
It wasn't a cow though. Looking back at me was another character with the default skin, but his eyes were empty. I saw no name pop up, and I double-checked to make sure I wasn't in multiplayer mode. He didn't stay long, he looked at me and quickly ran into the fog. I pursued out of curiosity, but he was gone,
I continued on with the game, not sure what to think. As I expanded to world I saw things that seemed out of place for the random map generator to make; 2x2 tunnels in the rocks, small perfect pyramids made of sand in the ocean, and groves of trees with all their leaves cut off. I would constantly think I saw the other "player" in the deep fog, but I never got a better look at him. I tried increasing my render distance to far whenever I thought I saw him, but to no avail.
I saved the map and went on the forums to see if anyone else had found the pseudo-player. There were none. I created my own topic telling of the man and asking if anyone had a similar experience. The post was deleted within five minutes. I tried again, and the topic was deleted even faster. I received a PM from username 'Herobrine' containing one word: 'Stop.' When I went to look at Herobrine's profile, the page 404'd.
I received an email from another forum user. He claimed the mods can read the forum user messages, so we were safer using email. The emailer claimed that he had seen the mystery player too, and had a small 'directory' of other users who had seen him as well. Their worlds were littered with obviously man-made features as well, and described their mystery player to have no pupils.
About a month passed until I heard from my informant again. Some of the people who had encountered the mystery man had looked into the name Herobrine and found that name to be frequently used by a Swedish gamer. After some further information gathering, it was revealed to be the brother of Notch, the game's developer. I personally emailed Notch, and asked him if he had a brother. It took him a while, but he emailed me back a very short message:
I did, but he is no longer with us.
I haven't seen the mystery man since our first encounter, and I haven't noticed any changes to the world other than my own.
Hello. My name is Nitro.I can also relate to the story above. So,what happened is I had just spawned in and started cutting down trees.I was on single player, then I saw it,him. He ran past my screen and scared the crap out of me.
Later after I built my house I went mining.I was super deep down and as soon as I placed a torch I saw him looking at me.I was so scared because it felt like the Minecraft devil staring at my soul.I left as fast as possible.
Later I decided to try to make a Minecraft forum.I checked it the next day & it was gone!I tried a lot more times until on my Xbox I received this message:
"Stop.This is your only warning"
At this time I just quit.
i saw him 3 times im blazemico so 1. i was digging dirt AND I HIT HIM
2. i was outside i saw a zombie BUT IT WAS HEROBRINE
3. i was runing on trees then I SAW HIM UNDER A TREE
sorry that it was so short i hate typing
Milsom's, Herobrine is back and you're done nothing about it. You're putting Minecraft at risk and if nothing is done is 3 days I'm sorry but well have to send someone else for the rewards. Which will be amazing goods worth lots of money. You're failing us. You are not worthy unless you act now.
- According to Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, 4J Studios had removed Herobrine from the game, but on the loading screen, it says "we're not sure." Could this be proof that Herobrine isn't just a Minecrafters nightmare?
- Some accounts and countless YouTube videos claim that Herobrine is able to fly, throw fireballs, mine and place blocks, and possesses a rather disturbing territorial mark of RedstoneTorches.

Minecraft in found i herobrine
Herobrine is a well-known creepy-pasta who haunts the world of Minecraft and is also Notch's brother. (Herobrine Alexej Persson) He is known to be in most versions of Minecraft. Most people fake the videos of herobrine to scare their viewers.
The scary legend of Herobrine
Herobrine first appeared in a single image detailing an encounter. It was posted on a thread in the forums, and gained very little attention. It stated how Herobrine had appeared in someone's single-player game, littering the map with various pyramids and tunnels.
It was only later that Herobrine grew in popularity, when the Brocast staff staged a hoax in one of their live-streams. Herobrine was introduced to the stream here (at 20:45).
Later on, there was another video showing Herobrine in a user-made lava field. The livestream went down after the player ran and saved, only to resume ten minutes later, where Herobrine had disappeared.
During this stream, the player can be heard talking to his wife, stating he was trolling, which flooded the livestream chat with outrage. The player then faked a game crash.
During this crash, all watchers were redirected to another page, featuring Herobrine's face, but with real, frantically rolling eyes in the place of his block eyes, modified to be completely black.
When viewing the page's source, there were a jumble of characters and letters. after removing all non-alphabet characters, the following message was revealed. It has been reported that some victims of torture, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being tortured. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP.
The message keeps telling the viewer to "wake up", implying they're living in a fantasy world, and this text hidden in the page is their "note". Also, herobrine can re-write signs with questions on them.
It is widely believed all of his appearances in the stream and other video sources are retextured paintings, retextured iron doors, mods or other players, albeit with the name tag removed above their head.
Since then, there has been a huge increase in his popularity, propelling Herobrine to meme status, making moderators of the wiki and forums need to take extra steps to stem the flow of user-made spam.
Signs of Herobrine
Here are signs of Herobrine that eyewitnesses find
- herobrine can rewrite signs with questions on them such as, "are you here to hurt me" or, "101010111100"(a bunch if 1 and 0).
- If there are no leaves on trees, then Herobrine must've taken the leaves.
- If there are leaves with no wood, Herobrine must've taken the wood.
- If there is no glass in your world, Herobrine could've done this...
- If you hear the default player damage sound, Herobrine will be behind you. (if the sound comes from the End, then it's just the Enderdragon)
- If you see a cow with white eyes, then it's Herobrine.
- If you see sheep with white eyes, then it is also Herobrine.
- If you see a chicken spawn at an unreasonable location, like a cave or a ravine, Herobrine is nearby.
- If no forest is seen, Herobrine was there.
- If you see Redstone torches, Herobrine was there
- if you see 2x2 tunnels, Herobrine was there
- If you see signs reading "HB", Herobrine was there
- if you see an unnatural biome spawn, Herobrine is nearby
Proof of Herobrine
Here are some proof of Herobrine.
- With the no-password Minecraft launcher, enter HEROBRINE and then you will find out that your skin is Herobrine.
- In SMP, if you get killed by arrows from a dispenser, then the chat log will say "______ was shot by Herobrine". It is possible that the Dispenser is Herobrine
- It is possible that Enderman could be Herobrine, or just a prototype of him.
- Notch indicated on most Minecraft versions "Herobrine removed". So it is possible Herobrine existed on older versions... or just a lie to make viewers understand that Herobrine is not in Minecraft.
- In a realm, a lot all of a sudden got exploded from TNT. If you see that then Herobrine has been there.
Notch posted on twitter about the subject of Herobrine, early in his popularity boost.
RavenBurga Is "he" a real entity ingame or is it just a successful_troll.swf?
Notch It's not real. =) But it might be soon!
This confirmed there was no Herobrine, but suggested Notch planned to add him at a later date.
At Minecraftcon 2010, Notch confirmed Herobrine will be in the game, probably in a "seecret friday update".
Due to increased drama surrounding the Herobrine page, a wiki moderator asked notch over IRC if Herobrine would be added:
12:25Kizzycocoa [...] is there any confirmation on his upcoming existence in MC?
12:27Notch i have no plans of adding herobrine as is, but I do like the rumors, haha
This shows Notch has decided against adding Herobrine. However, the fact that "as is" suggested that something like Herobrine may be added, fuelling beliefs he will be added even further. So, once again, the same user asked for clarification
8:09 AM Oct 20thKizzycocoa [...] the entire community is getting frustrated by the hero-spam
8:56 AM Oct 20thNotch i have no plans of adding herobrine.[2
Is he real?
Possibly not, because in MineCon, Notch exclaimed that Herobrine is a hoax... although after saying that he strangely looked away... Herobrine still could be a hoax...
It is possible that a Minecraft Hater made the Herobrine story up so people would get scared and to decrease the sales of Minecraft...
Modders make fake Herobrine videos, but he is not real.
Some people said they saw him and one of them is here to say what happened:
So, when I was playing Minecraft with my cousin we had to go into a backup world and when we went in, we say herobrine. After we finished, my cousins worlds started to also have Herobrine in it AND started locking and deleting some of his worlds. But, my cousin may have added in a mod without me knowing. We'll never know.
How to find Herobrine
- Look at each animals eyes
- Look in 1x2 holes
- Use F3 underground
- Always look around you when you hear something
- He often appears at the edge of fog, in a tiny render distance.
Mojang media appearences
Herobrine has appeared in official Mojang images as an "in" joke.
His first appearance in official Mojang images started with the Wedding Weekend, in which he was just behind Notch's Minecraft character. His second appearance was in the Minecon header, where, yet again, Herobrine was just behind Notch.
Herobrine also appeared in the the official Minecon trailer, created by Hatfilms, at 3:11. However, as users were asked to submit their skins to appear in the trailer, this is likely not intentional.
Some users point to this as proof of his future addition. However it is likely a Red Herring, and only there to provoke Herobrine "supporters".
- Herobrine's fear is known to be Enderman.
- People say Herobrine is Notch's dead brother.
- In the Minecraft show "Minecraft: The n00b Adventures", in some episodes, Herobrine appeared as a cameo in some episodes. For example: When n00bly and Fart Garfunkel were being attacked by skeletons, when a skeleton moved, Herobrine could be seen far away.
- Another example is when the noobs are building a minecart track at the start, Herobrine could be seen on the grass in the background, staring at you.
- When you see him RUN!

The negro began to undress, and when he took off his pants, my throat caught. I have never seen such a large member, he already stood like a pillar. Length, in my opinion, 25 centimeters and thick.
