Features to Consider When Choosing the Best Roll-On Bed Liner

Water-Based vs Oil-Based

One of the most important considerations you have to make when choosing the roll-on bed liner is if it is water-based or oil-based.

Compared to their oil-based counterparts, water-based roll-on bedliners are generally easier to apply and don’t have a strong smell. Cleaning up after application is also easy with soap and water.

Drying time is also faster, with an average of 4 hours for most products. If you plan to use a water-based roll-on bedliner, make sure that the surface to be coated has been sanded so that it will adhere properly.

On the other hand, oil-based roll-on bedliners are known for better adhesion and protection.

Roll-on bedliners are available in various textures and you need to choose one that is appropriate for your truck. Choose a smooth texture if you want to easily slide heavy loads in and out of the bed with little effort.

If you want to achieve a skid-resistant surface, choose a roll-on bedliner that offers a textured finish. A non-slip anti-skid finish offers the best wet and dry grip.

Ease of Use

What’s great about roll-on bedliners is that you don’t have to bring your truck to the shop for its application as you can easily do it yourself.

Many products already come with rollers and brushes so you don’t have to worry about buying them separately.

It’s also a good idea to buy a product that does not require complicated preparations before the application. And of course, detailed easy-to-understand instructions can go a long way.

Thickness and Durability

Roll-on bedliners vary in the thickness that you can achieve. The thickness of the coating can greatly affect how it can protect your truck bed from impact, scrapes and scratches.

Moreover, you want a bedliner that will last long so that you don’t have to recoat more frequently. To make sure of this, read product reviews and feedback to get an idea of the durability of the roll-on bedliner you are considering to buy.

More often, durable roll-on bedliners also come with years of product warranty because the manufacturers are confident that their product will last long.

Weather Resistance

Unless your truck bed has a reliable roll-up tonneau cover, it will be exposed to the elements most of the time. The best bed liner should be able to provide excellent weather protection.

Get a roll-on bedliner that can withstand extreme weather conditions and is also resistant to moisture to prevent corrosion and rust.

It’s also a good idea to get a roll-on bedliner with UV protection as frequent exposure to the sun’s rays can be damaging to your truck bed. Without UV protection, your bedliner will easily fade, affecting its overall performance.

Q: Is roll-on better than spray-on bed liner?

A: Either type of bedliner has its own pros and cons, so it depends on what you’re looking for.

Spraying bed liner offers a more even and professional-looking finish and are also great for weatherproofing. However, their main drawback is that they are harder to apply for a diy bedliner project and are generally more costly than roll-on bedliners.

With a roll-on bedliner, apart from being more affordable and easy to apply, they are also highly resistant to scratches, skidding and corrosion. And as a bonus, they hardly peel or flake.

It is also worth mentioning that some of the best roll-on bed liners match the quality of finish that spray bedliner offers.

Q: How much roll-on bedliner should I buy?

A: Generally, a gallon of roll-on bedliner is enough for a 6-foot truck bed. Keep in mind that this is only a rough estimate.

You could also refer to the label for the recommended amount of bedliner you need depending on your truck bed size.

Conclusion – Best Roll-On Bedliner

A roll on bedliner is a good investment for your truck bed. Overlanding adventures can take you to many places and expose your truck to the elements. Without a durable and reliable bedliner, it will be prone to rust, abrasion, corrosion and scratches.

The best roll on bed liner can give you peace of mind knowing that your truck bed is protected.

In term of overall performance, we think that the Herculiner HCL1B8 Brush-on Bed Liner Kit is a good choice. It may be on the expensive side but it is also one of the best in terms of ease in application, durability and maximum protection.

It is also an extremely versatile coating as you can use it on almost any type of surface. Most importantly, it leaves a thick textured finish.

If you are looking for a more affordable bedliner, you may want to consider Rust-Oleum. It is not a complete kit though but it receives many positive reviews as a bedliner.

7 Best Roll-On Bedliners in 2021_

The best roll-on bedliner for your pickup truck is the Herculiner HCL1B8 Brush-on Bed Liner Kit. It comes with two rollers, a brush and a gallon of heavy duty polyurethane coating that dries with a tough, anti-skid finish.

Pickup truck beds have a hard life, having to endure weather and harsh sunlight and asked to withstand heavy loads. So to help you find the best roll on bedliner we tested for ease of use, making sure the kits came with everything you need. We also looked for durability over the long haul and a good-looking roll on bedliner paint job that won’t fade in the sun. Read on to see more about the Herculiner and the rest of the top roll-on bedliners for your pickup or trailer.

Top 7 Best Roll-On Bedliners

 #1  Herculiner HCL1B8 Brush-on Bed Liner

WHY WE LIKE IT: This bed liner kit lets you apply a tough, all weather polyurethane coating to just about any surface, including metal, wood and concrete. It produces a coat up to 5 times thicker than other roll-on bedliners and dries with a non-slip, textured finish.

  • Excellent non slip, skid-resistant finish
  • Seals off metal surfaces and prevents rust
  • Gasoline and solvent resistant

  • 1 gallon may not be enough for longer truck beds
  • Some may want to add a second brush, as the kit only comes with one

This Herculiner bed liner kit is designed to cover the area of a roughly 6 foot pickup truck bed. It boasts a thickness up to five times greater than other DIY roll on bedliners, and gives a black, textured anti skid finish. Made of polyurethane, it resists moisture and UV light, protecting metal areas from rust and corrosion. It resists oil and gasoline as well.

While it doesn’t come in a different roll on bedliner colors, this heavy-duty surface sealant provides long-lasting protection and bonds to a wide variety of materials, including metal, concrete, and even wood, so you can use it to coat trailers, carts, and cargo van floors. Thorough prep is the key to a smooth installation process with this one, and the setting time can be as long as 12 hours. For another way to keep your truck bed safe, take a look at some of the best truck bed liner mats.

#2  Speedokote T-Rex White Roll On Truck Bed Liner

WHY WE LIKE IT: A good choice if you’re looking for white roll-on bedliner, this kit includes a roller, brush, urethane bedliner and a hardening solution. It’s also 50-state compliant for environmental laws.

  • Dries very quickly
  • UV and weather stable
  • Bonds to metal and sanded paint

  • Less coverage than you get with the Herculiner kit
  • White bedliner seldom matches OEM truck bed looks

This all-weather urethane bedliner kit comes with a roller, brush and hardener solution that you mix with the bedliner immediately before application. This speeds up the drying time considerably. You can apply a second coat within usually about half an hour with this kit, as opposed to the nearly 8 hour drying time you get with the Herculiner bedliner.

The finish with this bedliner is comparable to that of most OEM truck beds and cargo van floors. It’s durable and scuff resistant holds up well to UV light and can be painted over with automotive-grade topcoat if you want a nice, good quality gloss finish. To keep the inside clean, consider one of the best truck floor mats.

#3  Dupli-Color BAQ2010 Bed Armor DIY Truck Bed Liner

WHY WE LIKE IT: Dupont-developed Bed Armor roll-on bedliner is water-based and comes in a resealable paint can, provides a durable, chip resistant finish and bonds equally well to metal, fiberglass, concrete and automotive plastics.

  • Formulated with Kevlar for impact and scratch resistance
  • Solvent and gasoline resistant
  • Unused product can be stored for later use

  • Applicator roller sold separately
  • Takes longer to dry than the Speedokote

A good quality roll-on bedliner, this water-based solution creates a textured, highly durable polyurethane finish and bonds very well to bare metal, sanded paint, wood, concrete and automotive plastics. While the included can is just barely enough to cover a pickup truck bed, this bedliner is also great for bumpers, wheel wells, and outdoor furniture.

While it takes a similar level of prep as the Herculiner bed liner, it dries somewhat faster, though the finished result isn’t usually as thick of a coat. However, a key advantage of Dupli-Color bedliner is that the product is reusable; if you don’t finish the can, you can store the rest for later application. This is the best truck bed liner you’ll use.

 #4  Rust-Oleum, Black Automotive 248915 32-Ounce Truck Bed Coating

WHY WE LIKE IT: With a 4-hour drying time and generous, 35-square foot per quart coverage, this durable truck bedliner is a good choice for coating full-size pickup truck beds and other relatively large areas.

  • Large coverage area and textured non-slip finish
  • Seals and bonds to prevent rust
  • Scuff and chemical-resistant finish

  • Not as thick as the Herculiner
  • Not as versatile for different kinds of surfaces as the Dupli-Color
  • Doesn’t include applicators

This Rustoleum roll on bedliner is made in the US and has a well-deserved reputation for consistent quality. Claiming a coverage of 25-30 square feet per quart, compared to the roughly 15 square feet you get with the Dupli-Color or the Speedokote white bed liner, the Rustoleum is a good choice if you’re trying to coat a full-size truck bed.

It doesn’t produce as thick a coat as you get with the Herculiner bedliner, but it seals off metal areas from moisture extremely well, preventing rust. The finish is similar to the OEM truck bedliner, with a matte textured black look. It’s UV stable and all-weather safe. This bedliner is a necessity among the best truck equipment.

#5  U-Pol Products RAPTOR Black Truck Bed Liner Kit t

WHY WE LIKE IT: Easy to use and offering a finish claimed to be eight times tougher than competing roll-on bedliners, this high-quality aerosolizable bed liner is highly versatile, great for truck beds of course but also suitable for weatherproofing a variety of surfaces.

  • Quick drying time, thanks to included hardener
  • Tougher finish than most picks
  • Resistant to salt, moisture and extreme temperatures

  • Application nozzles not included (but can be brushed on or rolled on)
  • More expensive than the Rustoleum roll-on bedliner

This Raptor roll-on bedliner comes in black or tintable finishes, and gives you the option of using a roller or brush or spraying it on with a paint spraying nozzle and air compressor. The kit comes with four cans of bedliner, along with a hardener solution that you can mix in different ratios for different drying times and storage times.

This kit includes four one-quart cans of roll-on, for a total coverage area of about 125 square feet. With the option of mixing in varying amounts of hardener, this means the kit can last a long time for smaller jobs, or get you through one bigger job such as weatherproofing a trailer or re-coating a full-size truck bed. While you’re at it, take a look at more of the best car accessories.

 #6  POR-15 49701 OEM Bed Liner

WHY WE LIKE IT: This truck bed and underbody coating from POR-15 leaves a professional looking high gloss black finish and bonds to fiberglass, concrete, wood and metals including aluminum.

  • High gloss finish great for underbody
  • Water based and low-odor
  • UV, solvent and moisture resistant

  • Requires more prep work than with the Raptor roll-on bedliner
  • Doesn’t come with applicator tools

This POR-15 bedliner is a solid, budget-friendly choice if you’re looking for a water based bed liner or weatherproofing coating for truck beds, trailers and undercarriages. It’s a low-odor product, and during application can be cleaned with soap and water, making it a great DIY roll on bedliner.

However, compared to the Raptor roll-on bedliner and the Speedokote white roll-on bedliner, some extra prep work may be required with this one in order to ensure a strong surface bond. Sanding of painted surfaces is a must, and for use on bare metal, the manufacturer recommends applying a prep coat of POR-15 rust prevention spray.

#7  Durabak 18 Non Slip Coating, Bedliner, Deck Paint

WHY WE LIKE IT: This moisture-cured polyurethane based truck bed liner and outdoor protective coating comes in multiple colors, a rarity among roll-on bedliner options. Plus, it’s durable enough to be approved for use on US Navy ships.

  • One part, no mixing necessary
  • Bonds to metal, fiberglass, wood, concrete and itself
  • Textured, waterproof non-slip coating

  • Sold 1 quart at a time
  • Takes longer to dry than the Raptor roll-on bedliner

If you’re looking for roll-on bedliner colors other than black or white, this Durabak non-slip coating and deck paint is a top pick. Made of polyurethane, it dries thick and is highly durable, weatherproof and UV resistant, leaving a tough, non-skid finish. Great for use as pick up truck bedliner, it’s also a popular choice for outdoor furniture paint or deck paint, and it’s among the deck paints approved for US Navy ships.

This one-part solution doesn’t require pre-mixing, unlike the 2-part options from Raptor and Speedokote. However, given that it’s moisture-cured, it can take longer to dry and set than the Raptor bedliner.

How We Decided

In order to narrow down our choices to the best roll-on bedliner options out there, we looked for durability, ease of use and quality protection. We also favored kits that came with all the materials needed for a DIY application.

We only included roll-on bedliners that were waterproof, all-weather safe, resistant to extreme temperatures, and those that delivered UV stability. Resistance to corrosive chemicals was considered a strong selling point, but all of these protective coatings should be expected to withstand gasoline, motor oil, and some petroleum-based solvents.

The availability of different colors was also a plus, as was reasonable drying time and the option of a textured or smooth finish.

While the ability to use a paint gun or sprayer was a bonus, we did require that the products worked as roll-on bedliners, giving good results (with the proper prep of course) when applied with roller and brush. This way, we could limit our choices and select the best DIY bedliner.

Some of the roll-on bedliner brands sell kits with rollers and brushes included, such as Speedokote and Herculiner. Lowes or Home Depot, your local hardware store or even auto parts or marine supply store will also likely be able to sell you an appropriate roller and brush, though, so this wasn’t a strict requirement.

Best Roll On Bedliner Buyer’s Guide

  1. Water-Based vs Oil-Based
Water-based roll-on bedliner and coating is typically easier to apply at home in a low-odor process and can be cleaned up via soap and water. Drying and setting time is usually less, about 3-4 hours, than with oil and urethane roll-on bedliner. Proper prep is important with a water-based bedliner, however, as these formulas typically require a sanded surface to adhere properly. Oil-based bedliner such as the Rustoleum roll-on bedliner, as featured on our list, offers excellent adhesion to painted and unpainted surfaces and when set provides a good chemical protection.
  2. Thickness
Roll-on bedliners vary in the thickness of coating you can achieve with each coat. Our top pick, the Herculiner, advertises a finish about five times thicker than most roll-on bedliners. This helps with impact and scuff resistance, an important consideration for truck beds.
  3. Texture
A roll-on bedliner is a great way to add an anti-skid, non-slip finish to any outdoor surfaces. For best wet and dry grip, look for a roll-on or spray-on kit that promises a textured finish, such as you get with the extra-thick Herculiner bedliner.
  4. Drying Time
Some roll-on bedliner kits come with a hardener solution that is packaged separately. You mix the two immediately prior to application, which begins the setting and drying process. This can be convenient if you want a quick-drying DIY bed liner, but in general, once you mix, you have to use that can right away. If you’re looking for a reusable can of roll-on bedliner, consider a product like the water-based polyurethane formula from Dupli-Color (our #3 pick.)

Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: What does this mean, 2 cans or 3 for wood. coverage: textured = 60sq.ft/gallon in 2 coats, wood surfaces requir

Answer: The standard application of Durabak, is a 2 coat application. However, wood surfaces are usually more absorbent, and require a 3rd coat for a full finish. So a gallon of Durabak on most surfaces will cover approximately 60 square feet with 2 coats, but on more absorbent surfaces, like plywood, 1 gallon of Durabak will get you closer to 40 square feet with 3 coats.
  • Question: Will this product adhere to truck parts and trim ? Also can it be used to coat a dura max tool box thats made of plastic ?

Answer: Hey, great question! Durabak can be applied to plastic and it bonds well! Just like all Durabak applications prep is required; clean (with non chlorinated detergent) then scuff (60 grit when prepping plastic, same for rubber. Fiberglass, Gel coat, bare metal, aluminum all require 40 grit. Painted surfaces are 80 grit for textured Durabak and 100 grit for smooth Durabak), then wipe down with Xylene (use t-shirt material) and as soon as evaporated apply the Durabak (thin coats so you don't get curing bubbles and pinholes, second coat goes down as soon as first coat is touch dry - do the fingernail test). In short, clean, scuff 60 grit, wipe down with Xylene and apply 2 coats. Give it 24 hours completely dry and then light use, after 4-7 days heavy use. It is moisture cured, so high humidity and high temperatures will make the Durabak dry FASTER. If you have any more questions please ask!
  • Question: Does this require primer on bare aluminum

Answer: Yes- you should prime the bare aluminum. You'll want to clean the surface thoroughly, rough it up with 40 grit, and apply a metal self etching primer, like zinc chromate. Just make sure to follow the primer guidelines regarding over-coating.
  • Question: Will the sun fade it out?

Answer: Durabak has excellent UV resistance, but eventually the sun takes a toll on everything, so it will fade over time. However, Durabak does bond to itself, so you can always do a single refresh coat years down the line to bring back the original color.
  • Question: How many sq ft will this gallon cover?

Answer: 1 gallon covers roughly 60 sq ft with 2 coats of Durabak.
  • Question: What can you use to seal bare wood before application?

Answer: Durabak normally bonds directly to bare wood. But it can be very absorbent, and may require 3 coats of Durabak. So if you prefer, you can prime it first using most traditional wood primers, including a latex primer. Just check the label of the primer to ensure it's compatible with a urethane over-coat.
  • Question: Is it possible to recoat if it were to become necessary over time?

Answer: Yes, absolutely! Durabak bonds to itself. You do need to clean and rough up the Durabak, though, before a future re-coat.
  • Question: Is an epoxy primer required if applying to galvanized and or bare metal?

Answer: You'll either want use a water based 2k epoxy or a metal self etching primer on galvanized or bare metal.
  • Question: How clean does the surface need to be before application ?

Answer: Proper prep is key to a successful application. Surface dirt can prevent a good bond. You'll want to clean the surface thoroughly with a non-chlorinated detergent, and then rough up the surface. Depending on the surface application, you'll then want to either just wipe it down with solvide or xylene as a final clean, or will need to prime the surface before application.
  • Question: can it be painted

Answer: If you're asking whether Durabak can be painted onto a surface- yes, absolutely. With proper prep, you can go ahead and roll, brush, or spray the Durabak on. If the question is whether Durabak can be painted over, the answer is also yes. You can use a urethane based paint to go over the Durabak if desired.

Happy with my purchase!

So this is in no way a complaint, just observations of the product. FYI the LT grey is a very light grey with a sheen. It does not have thick consistency and runs just a tiny bit. If rolling on expect to do minimum 2 coats. Do not roll on too thick due to the consistency. It will run! The dry time was very long and was still tacky at the end of the second day. So you will have to do this over two weekends. It is extremely hot where I live so I did expect a short dry time. So if somewhere cooler you may want to plan for a longer dry time.

It was a very easy process. I even put on a thicker coat to cover a crack and then it rained with in a hour and the paint never cracked or ran. It looks great and heavy duty. Will order again for other vehicles. Great customer service.

Color coverage on bare metal isn't great

Bought this product for application to the roof of a GMC crew cab that had peeling paint. Followed all instructions for application to the letter, sanded down all flaking paint to the metal and primer, put on 2 coats as instructed. However, the color coverage on white is terrible. All the bare metal spots and primer spots are showing through. Had more than enough product (2 Quarts) to cover the roof of the truck in 2 coats, heavy on the second but it still looks terrible. Instructions should definitely be updated to recommend priming and sanding if color variation is present if you're using the white. Can't speak to the other colors. Really really disappointed with the results and the effort at this point.

Great liner

This liner is great. I did the bed of my truck. It’s not cheap paint with sand in it like the other brands, this has grit. Seller wastes no time with shipping and gets the product to you ASAP

Price was right

Goes on really well after a lot of prep. Downside is even after mixing for like 25 minutes it turned out blotchy lite and dark tan…I mixed it every time I poured more in the paint tray but still turned out with darker areas

Best Roll On Bedliners – Best Options For Your Truck

You want to give your truck a new paint job, why not go all the way and touch up the truck bed as well? Truck bed liners come in drop-in, spray in and roll on options. Roll-on bedliners are known for easy application. Not only do you want the job to be easy, you also want it to be affordable. DIY roll-on bedliners are the best for this and also have a very nice finish. Let’s take a look at a few options we have come across and deemed good enough for you!

Table of Contents

Top 7 Roll On Bedliners: Comparison & Review

1 – Herculiner HCL1B7 Brush-on Bed Liner

You can’t make a list about the best roll on bedliner and not mention the Herculiner name in your reviews. It’s a trusted name that produces great bedliners. This best DIY truck bed liner kit is easy to apply and much better to control than a bed liner spray gun. This roll on bedliner covers your truck bed with a textured polyurethane coating that’s tough enough to protect it from heavy loads.

One of the best things about the Herculiner name is the thickness. In many reviews, they’re known to be thicker than Line X and perhaps even thicker than some Rhino Liner options. Your black Herculiner truck bed lining won’t chip, flake, peel or crack over time due to being 5 times as thick as the regular market brands.

It’s a skid-resistant formula that protects your truck bed from rust and corrosion and offers a perfect seal to prevent moisture damage. Not only that, but you are also protected against chemicals, solvents and even gas.

Using a roller, you can apply this quality roll-on bed liner to your truck bed and many surfaces such as metal, wood and even concrete.

Because it’s much thicker than the average product, you can expect a long drying time, but it’s worth it!

If you purchase the entire roll-on truck bed liner kit from the store, you’ll have every tool you need (like a roller) to get the job done included in the package. The roller will allow you to apply to a larger surface area while the brush is for smaller details and crevices to make sure you cover everything with black truck bed coating.

  • Creates a strong adhesive bond to many surfaces so you can get the most use out of it.
  • The roll-on bed liner kit includes new rollers and everything you need for easy application.
  • Durable rollers
  • Known to be one of the thickest liners on the market, up to 5 times as thick as regular options.
  • Skid-resistant and gives long lasting protection against corrosion, rust, and other substances.
  • The polyurethane roll on bed liner doesn’t crack, peel, chip or flake over time.
  • You’ll find it provides a perfect and tight seal.
  • The thicker material may provide more sound dampening and vibration absorbing effects.
  • The roll-on liner gives your truck a good black finish.

  • Drying may take a long time
  • It isn’t UV resistant.

2 – Dupli-Color BAK2010 Bed Armor DIY Truck Bed Liner with Kevlar Bed Armor Kit

Next in our review is the Bed Armor. We’re going to bed money on the fact that you know what Kevlar is. It’s a tough material used in bulletproof vests. It has to be extremely tough to stop a bullet, so you can imagine the Dupont Kevlar fibers that are incorporated into the mixture of this truck bed coating and the effect it will have when you apply it.

You can choose from a small 0.18 ounce can to a 1 gallon pack. If you see yourself reusing the Bed Armor DIY bedliner in the future, purchase a larger amount since there’s no working pot-life. There also isn’t a recoat window and can be done at your leisure using rollers.

Pick between a solvent-based or the water-based product. The former is an all purpose protector and the latter is easier to clean up and without a strong odor.

After the Bed Armor DIY truck bed liner is cured, it provides a rubberized finish that is durable gives your truck bed long lasting protection against damage, rust and corrosion.

This liner is so tough in fact that no impact will chip, flake or peel the bedliner once the thing is dry. You also got great paint options like black, dark olive, and clear.

Similar to the Herculiner roll-on bedliners we did a review of, the Dupli-color Bed Armor DIY liner can also be used on other surfaces as you please. As an extra tip in this review, keep a brush handy aside from rollers in case you need to do any touch-ups.

  • The water-based formula is easy to apply, easy to clean up and doesn’t have a strong odor.
  • The tough and durable roll-on truck bed liner protects your truck bed from impact.
  • We like that this rubber bed liner contains Kevlar for extra strength.
  • There isn’t a working pot life, so feel free to recoat and apply as needed.
  • The truck bed liner adheres to more than just your truck bed.
  • Choose from black, dark olive or clear as color options.

  • Not as tough as its made out to be.
  • The brush may be easier for application purposes.

3 – U-POL Raptor Black 2 L Coating Roll On

Although this U-POL Raptor bedliner is black, they have other tintable DIY truck bed liners for coating your truck with a white bed liner finish. For these reviews, we’ll check out the black.

It will please you that this truck bed liner is scratch-resistant, protects against corrosion, and other chemicals. You can’t guarantee you will only drive your truck on cloudy days, so it’s important to find a UV protective bedliner to prevent it from fading and scratching in the future.

The U-POL Raptor bed liner kit comes with two rollers, two hardeners,  two paint trays, two abrasive pads, and more in the box for use. DIY the black truck bed coating and check back in a bit to see a nice black finish.

The black product also adheres good to fiberglass, wood, metal and concrete if you’d like to coat anything else around your home.

The urethane makes this black roll on truck bed coating near indestructible and protects against different weather conditions. With UP4800, it also has a slip resistant quality that keeps you safe when you load and unload stuff. • The amount wasn’t enough to cover certain truck beds.
  • Read the label as the seller may accidentally send an expired product.

4 – Rust-Oleum Automotive

Next in our review is another popular name, the Rust-Oleum Automotive roll-on liner.

A lot of people might not see an advantage to the textured coating many of these truck bed liners provide. The finish is actually the best option for skid-resistance. And to be honest, it also gives your truck bed liner a little something extra.

The Rust-Oleum Automotive truck bed liner is also abrasion resistant, which means you can freely load and unload stuff without having to be on edge and worried you’ll scuff up the finish.

If you don’t have a tonneau cover, chances are your truck bed is still exposed to the elements all year round. This is tough on your truck and it’s also where a truck bed liner comes in. The formula for this Rust-Oleum Automotive truck bed paint is resistant to rust and corrosion, which most truck beds are susceptible to.

Apply the product right using the brush and roller for an even coat. It is a little thinner than other roll on truck bed liners and might require several attempts. It also allows you to right your mistakes with the next coat of paint.

  • The nice finish has skid-resistant properties.
  • Formulated to be abrasion and corrosion resistant, it’s a durable option that looks good.
  • It’s a fast drying formula due to the thinness of the roll on bedliner.
  • It’s easy to apply with the included brushes.
  • It covers your entire truck bed evenly.
  • You might not even need to prime your truck bed before using this DIY liner.
  • You can not only roll on this product, but it can be brushed on or you can use a spray gun

  • Thinner than other options and may need more than one coat.

5 – Plastikote 265GK Truck Bed Liner Kit

Water-based formulas are easier to apply and clean up than other product options. The Plastikote DIY bedliner kit dries quickly to reveal a chemical-resistant, durable, tough and non-skid surface for your truck bed.

Since it gives your truck bed protection from damage as well as rust and corrosion, it extends your truck bed life beyond just a few years.

One of the best things about this roll on liner kit is the material. Plastikote still puts focus to save the environment and produces their truck bedliners from recycled rubber granules.

The surface helps with skid-resistance and doesn’t fade over time. When applied, it’s tough enough to use in places of extreme heat or cold as the temperature resistance of this product is commendable.

You have a choice on how to administer the product. You can brush it on, spray it in or roll it on. The amount of paint in the kit is enough for coating two or three layers and maybe be left with some afterward.

  • The water-based truck bed liner is easy to apply, clean, and remove if you do make a mess.
  • It also dries fairly quickly compared to the average product.
  • It’s durable and tough, designed to be weather-resistant and non-skid.
  • Give your truck full protection with this chemical-resistant bedliner.
  • They care about the environment and make their bedliners with recycled plastic granules.
  • The high temperature resistance makes this bedliner a top contender in different parts of the world.
  • Spray it on, brush it on, or roll it on – it’s your choice!

  • It might not be as tough and durable as advertised.

6 – RTG Truck Bed Liner Paint

Get all the protection you need with this one bedliner. The black DIY bedliner paint is enough to extend your truck bed life and protect it and you against a plethora of safety issues. Stay protected from rust, corrosion, UV rays and others. It works great on coating cargo van floors, tailgates, truck beds and more.

Another anti-slip liner product in this review, the paint prevents your cargo from slipping on the surface and potentially falling.

Paint can smell bad, and so can truck bed liners. You don’t want to cause yourself any physical discomfort while trying to protect your truck. You’re in luck with the RTG truck bed liner since the product odor isn’t overwhelming, it’s fast drying and is a water-based polyurethane formula!

Water-based bedliners are way easier to brush and roll on and sometimes won’t even need a primer. They are also the easiest to clean up with just soap and water.

Just brush on one coat of this magic formula watch it cling to the surface of your truck bed for a firm seal and never chip, flake, peel or crack.

  • One all-encompassing bedliner that extends your truck bed life.

7 – Durabak White Textured, Outdoor, UV Resistant, Truck Bed Liner

The first white textured bedliner we have introduced in this review, we thought we’d give you guys more paint options aside from black. It still works just as well as the black bedliners in terms of protective coating. It still protects your truck bed against the run of the mill risks like scratching, rusting, corrosion, and is also weatherproof.

When applied, it seals seamlessly and adheres to your truck bed. It’s an all-in-one heavy duty DIY bedliner that is easy to apply. It even works well with boats and water vessels! The anti-slip design will keep your boat from rust (which is like boat cancer) and secures all the surfaces you roll it on.

This quality roll-on bed liner tightly bonds to a variety of surfaces including, metal, wood and concrete all in one easy DIY package. There are even more color choices for you to choose from if you like customization.

  • The first white liner we introduced to give you a bit of variety.
  • It works just as well as the black bedliners, offering the same protective qualities.
  • It adheres seamlessly to your truck and other surfaces, giving you the option to use this roll on bedliner on a bunch of other vehicles including boats.
  • Everything is ready to go in one easy DIY package, and there are even more colors for you to choose from!

  • Could be susceptible to scratching.

Our Top Pick: Herculiner HCL1B7 Brush-on Bed Liner

Of course the trusty Herculiner brand makes our top spot in this review of the best DIY roll on bedliner. They are known to be super tough and the thickness is what accounts for that. It rolls on smoothly and creates a textured polyurethane coating that is strong enough to withstand heavy abrasion.

Since it’s thicker, it’s not only skid-resistant but also dampens sound and vibrations. This black paint won’t flake, chip, crack or peel over time either.

What more could you ask for?

What to Look for When Buying the Best Roll On Bedliner

You are bombarded with a lot of questions and decisions when it comes time to buy the best DIY roll on bed liner. That’s why you search for reviews like this. So what should you consider and review to guarantee you will make the best choice? Let’s figure that out together. Alternatively, if you’re considering a spray in bedliner, you can read our review comparing Rhino Liner and Line X.

The surface texture actually plays a very important role. You can get different coating textures as there are a lot available on the market.

  • Smooth – A smooth surface is easier on your hands and knees if you need to get down on all fours. You can also slide heavy loads across the length of your truck bed with minimal resistance
  • Rough – A rough surface will provide the best non-skid surface you can get. It also helps to keep stuff in place if you are transporting lighter loads. Keep in might that it will be a bit tougher on your joints though.

Next up is review what you are aiming to coat. Does the bedliner adhere to different types of surfaces? Is that what you need?

This is one of the top considerations every truck driver should review when choosing the best DIY truck bed liner kit. How durable is your purchase? These products are meant to last and protect your truck bed. You certainly don’t want to damage it even before you’ve made a few delivery runs. Some quality roll-on bedliners like the Herculiner are made thicker and tougher than others. Check the materials used, if it contains Dupont Kevlar, it also adds a layer of durability to it.

When you read reviews, make sure the products can withstand different weather conditions, be waterproof and other substance-proof in case you spill some sort of chemical on your truck bed. Know that your truck is often exposed to elements so make sure the liner is also UV resistant so it will last.

The best roll on liners will work to protect your truck without causing you more headache and hassle. Hopefully the product kit you buy will be enough to cover your truck in one go. For the thinner liners, you might need to apply the product a few times on the surface and still have a lot left from a gallon for further coats.

Make sure the kit is easy to use! Who wants a roll on bedliner that’s tough to work on the truck and clean up? Know that it’ll take you at least an hour longer afterwards and maybe even before to prepare and clean up once it’s applied. It should roll on easily, hopefully come with everything you need like a roller, and dry quickly. Water-based coating formulas are easier to clean up and apparently a  roll on bedliner kit is easier as well. So, be sure to review this aspect when you search for products.

The best option would be if the bed liner kit possesses all of the above plus come at an affordable price. Read reviews and compare the price to find one within your budget. Many of the options we presented above are affordable in price and will let you save money. But since you’re looking for a roll on bedliner kit, chances are you’ll work on it as a weekend DIY project (more options here). This way you’ll save a lot of money by redoing your vehicle bed yourself, especially if you have 2 or 3 trucks.

Here’s how much spray-in bedliners would cost, for comparison.

This last thing is for your preference. There are bedliners with smooth and glossy finishes and other ones with a matte finish. Which do you prefer? Also, do you want tintable bedliners, a white one in color or a customized color to match your truck? It might cost a bit extra but think about the end goal you are looking for. Do you want products with a streamlined look or a color-blocking effect?

Most of the great products we presented in the review will provide your truck with adequate protection while adding to the overall appearance. We didn’t pick random brands for our reviews either, you only get the top choices based on many reviews and ratings and trial and error.

Whether you are choosing your bedliner online or in a store, read our reviews and follow our carefully curated list of factors to consider to help you make your decision. Go easy on yourself and make sure to buy one that comes with an application kit with not only a roller but a brush as well to get your coats into those hard to reach places.

Customer Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5by Squirrel Hunterfrom Did not know what to expectI purchased the Gator Guard II Truck Bed Liner not for a truck bed liner but to cover the rusty areas around the top of the wheel openings on the front fenders and bed and rear bumper of my 98 Dodge pick up truck. I cleaned the rust off with soft scrub and Bar Keepers friend as best I could. I rinsed the areas well and when everything was dry, I taped off the areas with painters tape. I then mixed only half of the contents of the containers because I was not sure of the working time before the product started to dry. I did one side and the back bumper the first day and the other side the following day. I used an inexpensive paint brush because the small roller I had did not work well. The product dried quickly (24 hrs) and so far ii looks good and is working well. Time will tell if the rust works it way through. Actually the color was pretty close to the original color of the truck, so it looks OK. Ron

Rated 5 out of 5by Anonymousfrom Great also for marine use...We used GatorGuard II on the aluminum pontoons on a boat, which were leaking due to electrolysis. We put screws in the holes and then painted the pontoons, and 6 years later they still don't leak. Tough coating! This time we are trying it as non-skid deck paint on the deck of a fiberglass, pleasure cabin/cruising trawler. Ordering it was considerably less expensive than the retail shop. Shipping arrived timely. Very pleased with this product and Eastwood.
