Connecting Woojer Vest Edge to Oculus Rift S
To connect the Woojer Vest Edge and Oculus Rift S, you'll need to enable Audio mirroring through your Oculus application.
Audio mirroring on Oculus Rift S and Rift allows audio to be played from both VR and your computer at the same time.
Audio mirroring setup:
- Open the Oculus app on your PC Computer.
- Select Devices in the left menu and click Rift S and Touch.
- Use the toggles to select if you want to:
- Hear VR audio from the Computer: Your computer's speakers will play the same things you hear from your VR headset.
- Hear Computer audio from VR: Your VR headset will play the same things you hear from your computer's speakers.
4. Connect your Woojer Vest Edge to your computer and make sure to set it as the main audio device output.
This setup will make your audio play simultaneously on both your Woojer Vest Edge and your Oculus Rift S.
Since the Oculus Rift S needs to be connected through wires, we highly recommend that you also use a wired connection to connect your Woojer Vest Edge to your PC, to ensure the best experience and for avoiding the delays/latency that could be caused by wireless connections.
- Your Rift S or Rift headset must be plugged in during this process to successfully activate audio mirroring.
- In order to use audio mirroring, your speakers should be set as default audio devices from within your Windows audio settings.
Troubleshooting the Oculus Rift S: Static cameras, setup failures, sensors failing
The Oculus Rift S is an incredibly powerful piece of technology, and one of its major selling point is ease of connectivity.
For many people, the Rift will work right out of the box. For others, however, some tiny, fiddly settings hiding away in your Windows installation may prevent it from working. Oculus support is currently swamped with support tickets, and some users have reported that Oculus hasn’t gotten back to them in over a week.
We compiled a list of possible fixes that have worked for others. Hopefully, they can help you, too.
Note: The Oculus Rift S is only advertised as being compatible with Windows 10, so these instructions have been written assuming you have Windows 10 as your operating system. If you do not, your first step should be upgrading.
Turn off Windows Defender – Possible fix for: Stalled installation, failed installation, unable to detect headset
For some reason, the Oculus App doesn’t like Windows Defender. Some users have been reporting problems with the Oculus App installing in the first place, and, most of the time, turning off Windows Defender will fix the problem. To do this, go to Windows Defender settings in the control panel (you can also just type Windows Defender Settings in the search bar). That should bring you to the Windows Security menu. Then go to Virus & threat protection and turn real time protection off.
Turn off Windows Firewall – Possible fix for: Stalled installation, failed installation
Windows Firewall doesn’t play well with the Oculus App’s method of downloading software. To fix this, just turn Windows Firewall off. Once again, this is a simple fix. Just type “Windows Defender Firewall” into the Windows 10 search bar. Then, when you are inside Windows Defender Firewall settings, click “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.”
There, you can turn off Windows Defender Firewall on both private and public networks, though you might want to turn it on again after you are done installing, just in case.
Turn off all antivirus software – Possible fix for: Stalled installation, failed installation, unable to detect headset
For the reason that the Oculus App doesn’t like Windows Defender, it also doesn’t like third party antivirus software. When performing your first install, be sure to disable your antivirus software to make sure it goes well.
Make sure all your drivers and bios firmware are up to date – Possible fix for: Sensors can’t track headset, no DisplayPort connection, static cameras, black screen, stuck on three dot loading screen
One of the biggest problems that the Rift S has is with out of date drivers. An outdated USB driver can make it completely cease to function. Before attempting to connect your headset, install the latest Windows updates, your latest graphics card drivers, just make sure everything is up to date.

This is an easy one to overlook. The Rift S’ sensors are basically treated like standard WebCams by Windows. Windows 10 allows you to keep apps from accessing your cameras in its privacy settings, and some computers come with cameras blocked by default. Just type “privacy settings” into the search bar, click on Camera and then flip the switch below “Allow apps to access your camera” to on.
Try every USB port on your machine, and also make sure your headset is plugged into your primary DisplayPort – Possible fix for: Sensors can’t track headset, no DisplayPort connection, static cameras, black screen, stuck on three dot loading screen
The Rift S is strangely finicky about the port you use. If the Oculus App isn’t detecting your headset, simply try every port on your machine. Some graphics cards only allow the Rift S to work when plugged into the primary DisplayPort. If none of the USB ports on your computer work, try plugging it into a powered USB hub with nothing else on it, or to a USB port on a PCI-E USB card.
If your graphics card comes with a USB or USB-C port, plug the Rift S into that specific USB port. Yes, this means to get a USB to USB-C converter if you need to. Some VR ready graphics cards only work with the Rift S if both the DisplayPort and USB are plugged into it, and not split between it and your motherboard.
Always plug in the USB first and then the DisplayPort – Possible fix for: Sensors can’t track headset, no DisplayPort connection, static cameras, black screen, stuck on three dot loading screen
This seems like a simple fix, but it’s one that Oculus support frequently recommends. When plugging your Rift S in, start by plugging in the USB. Then wait 10 seconds for your computer to recognize it. Next, plug in the DisplayPort. And finally, wait another 10 seconds before putting the headset on.
Remove all extra devices from your graphics card – Possible fix for: Sensors can’t track headset, no DisplayPort connection, static cameras, black screen
The Rift S doesn’t necessarily play well with multiple monitors. To try and isolate the problem, disconnect all devices except your main monitor from your graphics cards. Especially be sure to disconnect any HDMI devices, which seem to interfere with the Rift S the most.
Reseat the cable underneath the facial interface – Possible fix for: Sensors can’t track headset, no DisplayPort connection, can’t detect headset static cameras, static flashes, white flashes, lost video feed, black screen, stuck on three dot loading screen, random shut-downs
Many common Rift S problems are rooted in poor connectivity. It’s easy to step on your cable while in VR and tug it out of your headset. To reseat your cable, first remove the facial interface by gently tugging on it. Completely remove the wire at the top of the headset. Then plug it back in. Youll hear a firm click and snap when it’s fully plugged in.

6 Steps to Set Up Your Oculus Rift with Unity in Less Than 10 Minutes [ Updated]
Even though Oculus Rift got overshadowed by his younger and more nimble brother Oculus Quest 2, it is still a popular PC VR headset.
With the Oculus Link, millions of Quest 2 users can now connect their headset to their PCs and enjoy a huge library of PC VR games. With the recent upgrade of 'Air Link' feature even the USB cable isn't necessary.
This means if you own an Oculus Rift, you have a perfect opportunity to build and test high-demand VR applications for an ever-growing base of Oculus users.
So it's imperative to know how to set up your Oculus Rift for developer mode.
Once in developer mode, you'll be able to start development in Unity with Oculus assets and test your apps on the go!
A couple of technicalities, in case you just ordered the Rift S and you want to use it for your gaming laptop - Oculus decided to put an USB port on one side of the cable (all good so far) and a Display Port in the end of the cable which of course is outdated and non-compatible for most computer's I/Os.
To avoid the issue, order a Displayport to Type-C adapter ahead of time. We recommend getting a Type-C instead of HDMI port adapter since most of the users report issues with HDMI adapters.
The setup process for Rift and Rift S is identical. Rift S is just an upgraded version with sharper LCD display.
How to Prepare Your Oculus Rift For Development
At this point we are assuming that you've already used Oculus Rift before and are familiar with their core features such as the guardian system (where you trace the edge of your play area to stay within guardian boundaries while in VR), and have gone through the full setup already.
To create apps for the Oculus, you need a laptop/desktop computer, 1x USB headset cable, copy of Unity (previously known as Unity3D) and Oculus Integration package.
- Unity is an application that lets you build, test, and publish your original content on Oculus Home! In other words, it's a content creation engine for building VR applications.
- Oculus Integration Package is a Unity plugin that allows you to build apps for the Oculus with the correct framework.
To start things off, Usman will be sharing our Oculus Rift set up video with Unity. Next, we'll go over a three step recap of the video and some common issues.
Once you've downloaded Oculus Rift software make sure you have the latest Oculus updates installed. Depending on the time of the setup, the Oculus software package is the size of 5GB and more.
If you're having issues with the initial setup, we recommend that you contact customer support at Facebook technologies. Some problems are trivial, for example, having sufficient disk space on your computer and making sure that your computer satisfies the minimum requirements such as graphics card or RAM for the best VR experience.(Check out our guide on VR hardware or check your desktop capabilities with the new device with SteamVR performance checker).

Step 1: Connect Your Oculus Rift with USB
Before we start, open the Oculus Companion App on your phone and go to Settings > More Settings > Developer Mode and toggle the Developer Mode on.
Now plug your Oculus Rift in your PC using a USB cable. Make sure you’re using a USB-C cable or Oculus Link cable. In the following prompt, Allow USB Debugging and check whether Always allow from this computer is on.
Now we’re able to launch and test VR applications using your virtual reality headset! Let’s proceed to setting up your Unity environment.
Do I Need a Facebook Account to Develop Apps With my new Oculus Rift?
According to the Facebook guidelines for Oculus users, everyone who uses previous generation Oculus devices for the first time will need to log in with a Facebook account. The guidelines were introduced in October
So you need a Facebook account if you want to access Oculus Store and purchase content. But it’s a bit more complex than that.
If you want to use Oculus Rift exclusively for development purposes without accessing content from the Oculus Store, you have a choice: either connect your development account to your personal Facebook or set up a Test User account to test your VR applications.
In , Facebook will cease supporting legacy Oculus Accounts and might require Facebook accounts from new developers that are not using Oculus for Business Platform.
Step 2: Prepare Unity for VR Development
We're going to start by downloading the newest version of Unity engine. Install Unity on your computer by running the installer package and following simple instructions. Once you have Unity installed, create a new 3D project by clicking File > New Project. Name your project, select 3D from the Template dropdown menu and click Create.
Once you’ve created the new project, click on File then Build Settings. Let’s go through a couple of settings here:
- Set Platform to PC, Mac & Linux Standalone.
- Under Target Platform, select Windows (or other OS if it's different).
- You can toggle Development Build later to test and debug the app.
Note: Clear this selection when you’re to release the final build.
Finally, let’s enable VR support before we start building our first VR application:
- Go to Edit > Project Settings.
- Click XR Plugin Management, then go for Install XR Plugin Management.
- Open the Windows tab and select Oculus to install the Oculus XR plugin and enable the VR support in Unity.
Note: If you’re using older Unity versions (before ), follow these instructions instead to enable VR support in Unity:1) From the Build Settings menu, click Player Settings > XR Settings and check Virtual Reality Supported.
2) Make sure “Oculus” appears in the list. If it doesn’t, click the plus symbol below and select “Oculus” from the dropdown menu that appears.
We’re done with preparations. Let’s dive into creating our testing VR environment in Unity!
Step 3: Connect the Oculus Integration Plugin to Unity
Follow the screen instructions: click on the Asset Store tab (Window > Asset Store) and search for “Oculus Integration” at the top.
First, you need to download the package. After that proceed by clicking Import in the Asset store. To finish the import, click the Import button as shown below:
After that the Oculus Integration package will be imported into our current project.
Now we can use Oculus package components and assets to quickly set up our Virtual Reality environment.
Let’s start with setting up Oculus Camera that represents the position of VR headset and your players’ eyes.
Step 4: Set Up The Camera (OVRCameraRig and Main Camera)
In your Assets tab, navigate to Oculus > VR > Prefabs.
From there, click and drag the OVRCameraRig prefab into your scene.
Your project is now acting funny as there are two different cameras in one scene. The default Main Camera and the OVRCameraRig that we’ve recently added. Delete your original Main Camera in order to avoid conflict with your newly imported OVRCameraRig.
Browse your Hierarchy tab and find the Main Camera object, then right click on it and select Delete.
Now that we got the Main Camera out of the way, let’s set up our OVRCamera Rig.
Click on the OVRCameraRig in your Hierarchy tab. Then, take a look in the Inspector tab on the far right of your screen for Tracking Origin Type in the OVR Manager (Script) component. Click the Tracking Origin Type property so a drop down menu appears, and select Floor Level.
By doing this we are fixing the user's position and orientation relative to the floor. The position in VR is calculated based on the user’s height which they indicate when setting up their Rift device.
In other words, regardless of the users of your app, it will adjust to fit every one!
Step 5: Enable Oculus Touch Controllers
Now that we’ve set up our camera, we need to set up the controllers to represent the player’s hands.
If you want the player to use their Oculus Avatar hands, navigate to Oculus > Avatar > Content > Prefabs under the Assets panel
Drag the LocalAvatar prefab into your scene:
Done! Now that we have the controllers in the scene, your player will be able to interact with objects within the application you build. But we still need to make the controllers visible as avatar hands.
In your Hierarchy Tab, click the LocalAvatar game object. Then, check out the Inspector tab. Under the OVR Avatar (Script) component in the Inspector tab, find the “Start With Controllers” property and make sure it’s selected.
Save the scene. You now have a project that’s ready to develop for the Oculus Rift!

Step 6: Click Play!
Turn on your Oculus Rift controllers and click Play in Unity.
You should be able to see your scene as well as your two touch controllers. If your scene doesn’t look like much, that’s because it isn’t at this point. Now that you’re all set up, it’s time to get building and turn that space into something incredible!
You should also see your controllers moving around in the Scene tab.
Before you move ahead with your project, make sure you’re familiar with the capabilities of your hardware. Start by checking out all of the button inputs on your controllers. You’ll find it has a range of input options that include:
- Button One, Button Two, Button Three ,Button Four, Button Start, Button PrimaryThumbstick and Button SecondaryThumbstick
- PrimaryIndexTrigger, SecondaryIndexTrigger, PrimaryHandTrigger, SecondaryHandTrigger, PrimaryThumbstick and SecondaryThumbstick
As you continue to develop your scene, make sure you take advantage of the huge amount of resources at the Oculus Developer Center.

Hide your cords out of your way and tighten your velcro straps. Unfortunately the wireless options for Oculus Rift HMD or Rift S. isn't available and Facebook hasn't updated the software for Rift devices in a while. Sorry.
Common Error: I Can't See My Controller!
If you can't see your Touch Controllers in the scene, and Unity is giving you an error in the Project tab, try these fixes:
- Reinstall the latest version of Unity.
- Reinstall the latest version of the Oculus app. Sometimes, the Oculus app doesn't update past a certain version and reinstalling can be a quick fix. Download Oculus here.
- If prompted, update your firmware (headset, controllers and sensors).
- Make sure your Oculus Touch controllers are paired with your headset. From the Oculus app, click Devices > Right Touch / Left Touch > Forget Device on your old controllers. Re-Pair your controllers under Device > Configure Rift > Pair Touch. If both controllers say On you should be good to go!

- Go to Build settings > Player Settings > XR Settings and check Virtual Reality Supported. Make sure “Oculus” appears in the list otherwise click the plus symbol below and select it from the dropdown menu that appears
- Go to the Unity Asset Store tab(Click Window > Asset Store) in Unity and search Oculus Integration in the search field at the top.
Download and import the Oculus Integration into your project.
- At the end of the import you may see a prompt that says API update required. Click on “I made a backup, go ahead!”
Navigate to OVR > Prefabs in your assets tab.
- Click and drag the OVRCameraRig prefab into your scene.
- Delete the Main Camera from the scene in the hierarchy tab as it will interfere with the OVRCameraRig. Select OVRCameraRig from your Hierarchy tab, then look in the inspector tab. Look for “Tracking Origin Type” in it’s “OVR Manager(Script)” component. Click that property so a drop menu appears, select “Floor Level”.
- To enable the Oculus Avatar with hands and to use the controllers navigate to OvrAvatar > Content > Prefabs in your assets tab.
- Click and drag the LocalAvatar prefab into your scene.
- Select LocalAvatar from your Hierarchy tab, then look in the inspector tab. Look for “Start With Control” in it’s “OVR Avatar(Script)” component, make sure the box next to it is checked.
- Save the scene! You now have a project ready to develop for the Oculus Rift!
Tech Tip: How to set up the Oculus Rift S
Here are some quick instructions on how to get your Rift S setup and going with Vizard and Vizible.
Download and install the Oculus app from www.oculus.com/setup
Plug in the USB cable to a USB port
Plug in the Display port cable to a display port output on your video card (you can also use a mini-display adaptor if you only have mini-display port)
In the Oculus App, click on “Devices”
Select your Rift S (it should automatically show up once connected) and select “Device Setup”
Put a battery in each controller and follow the instructions in the Oculus app
Hold the menu and “Y” buttons to pair the left controller until the light stops blinking. For right controller hold Oculus and “B” buttons
Put on HMD. You can adjust the fit with the fit wheel on the back of the HMD and the velcro strap on top. You can also adjust the depth with the depth adjustment button on the bottom right of the headset.
Determine which direction you will be facing in VR
Place one of the controllers on the ground to confirm the ground plane
Define play area to calculate the Guardian boundary and your play area. Point a controller at the ground and trace an area on the ground around your center point. This can be skipped if you are not going to be walking around.
IPD (interpupillary distance) is adjusted via software with the Rift S. To do this click on Device settings- IPD adjustment
Connecting to Vizard using vizconnect:
-Vizard includes an Oculus preset that you can then add to any scene. To do this open up Vizard and go to Tools- vizconnect
-Choose to save the file to a folder where you have your main Vizard script (can name it anything you want, but suggest “vizconnect_config”)
-Click on “Select from some common preset configurations”
-Choose the “Oculus” preset
-Your settings are automatically saved, so you can now close the vizconnect tool
-To add to your Vizard scene, add the following code to your Vizard script:

-If you wish to connect to the Oculus HMD directly in your code, add the following lines of code to your Vizard script:

-To connect to Vizible, simply choose the “Oculus Touch” preset from the list of dropdown presets in the client interface (Note: that the “Oculus Touch” preset will still recognize the Rift S controllers).

-Clean lenses with a dry, microfiber cloth

We also noticed some mouse lag while this was happening. Coincidence? Maybe. Our solution was to plug the USB cable from the Rift into a different port. If that fails, try these steps:
Disconnect and Reconnect your Rift S
Unplug the USB cable from your computer
Unplug the Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort cable from your computer
Plugin the USB cable (to a different port than previously used, if possible)
When the headset light comes on, plug in the HDMI cable
Disconnect and Reconnect your Rift S Headset
Hold the front of the headset in your lap.
Gently pull away from the facial interface with the foam attached.
Unplug the cable from the headset and wait 5 seconds
Insert the cable back into your headset
Carefully replace the facial interface with the foam back into your headset.
Some posts have suggested that you go to settings on the Oculus app and join the beta. The only problem with this genius idea is the app is stuck on the "Oculus Rift Continue Setup in VR" screen, so you can't click anything.

Setting up the Oculus Rift or Oculus Rift S
Before Setting Up
This guide will show you how to set up the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers or Oculus Rift S for our software from the beginning to your first simulation.
First of all, ensure that the computer you are using meets the minimum specifications required to run our software.
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel® i / AMD Ryzen 5 X equivalent or greater
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 3GB / AMD Radeon™ RX equivalent or greater
Additionally, the Rift and Rift S require these display adapter ports:
Rift S: Displayport or Mini Displayport
There are no adapters available to convert the video output from a Rift or Rift S to any other output port.
As well as PC specifications, we also require a minimum physical space that is clear of any physical obstructions in order to enjoy our VR simulations:
Minimum Room Size: ftx5ft square room space
Consult the packaging your computer came in for a list of technical specifications, or use the "Device Manager" included in Windows 10 to determine your system specifications. To access Device Manager, right click on the Windows button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, and click "Device Manager". Open the "Display adapters" and "Processors" sections and compare the available devices to the system specifications above.
Note: The Display adapters section inside of Device Manager may contain multiple graphics cards. Your list may contain one of the brands above (Geforce or AMD) as well as Intel, and you will need to compare your system specifications to the Geforce or AMD card.
If your computer does not meet the minimum specifications, it will be incapable of running our software in VR and will require you to purchase an upgraded Windows 10 PC.
This tool will require you to install Steam, attempting to install the tool will guide you through account creation and Steam setup.
Open up the details section and compare your results to the ones below.
If your "Average Quality" score is any lower than 6, your computer may be incapable of running our software and will require you to purchase an upgraded Windows 10 PC. A recommended PC will receive a score of (High) or higher.
Setting Up Your VR Headset
If your computer meets the minimum specifications, you can now set up your Oculus Rift or Rift S. Please follow the relevant guide below to set up the appropriate headset. We highly recommend the Rift S over the Rift with Touch Controllers, as the setup process is much easier.
Setting up the Oculus Rift S
After completion, skip to the "Setting up SteamVR" section.
Setting up the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
If you have purchased the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers, you must have three total tracking cameras in order to use our software. This third tracking camera is not included in the retail packaging for the Oculus Rift and requires a separate purchase. Using the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers with our software requires more setup by an advanced user. If you have not purchased VR equipment, we would suggest the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift S instead of the Rift with Touch Controllers.
We also recommend wall mounts for standard camera screws. These are available at retailers like Amazon.
After doing this, you will need to open the Oculus App on your desktop, and open the Settings menu. Go to the General tab and toggle "Unknown Sources" to on.
Next, open up the Steam app on your desktop, log in, and hit this button, located in the top right of the main Steam window:
From here, you're ready to run our VR software!
Setting up the Software
Navigate the Course Catalog as you would in your web browser and find a simulation you would like to run. When you see the "Launch" button inside of the thumbnail with a VR visor icon, as seen below, it means that simulation is ready for play in VR! Click that icon, put the headset on your head, and get ready to learn!

Tips and Tools for getting the most out of your new Rift S in DCS World
The Rift S has many levels of Sim Pilots as owners. The setup here attempts to ensure a good initial experience for just about anyone running a Rift S on their system.
Experienced VR pilots may not find a lot of new info in this posting.
For new Pilots, it will get you flying quickly and start more tuning from here.
- You have accomplished the “Rig Tuning” [<<<LINK] as noted in this Blog and have completed the basic Oculus Rift S setup per the instructions that came with the HMD.
- It is HIGHLY recommended that you ensure you’ve updated Windows 10 to [<<<LINK] and are up to date on patches. Else you wont get all the pixels folks.
As the Rift S doesn’t require complex setup or deep technical understanding to run at its best. The following setup works to maintain that simplicity.

OTT gives you on-the-fly change capabilities for tuning your experience. It includes an available pop-up Visual HUD in your HMD for watching FPS and importantly FrameTime on the GPU/CPU.

If you want even more clarity of distance beyond this tuning, you’ll need to consider a different model VR HMD with a higher overall Pixel Per Degree rating.
Default ASW Mode:

The Rift S runs at 80Hz,so this number is equal to 40 not 45 for you.

We’re going for a balance of a great view, good detail, and smoothness with a Rift S.
Smoothness comes from Low FrameTimes generally in the low to mid-teens. FPS is important, but really keeping low FrameTimes will enhance your experience in VR in DCS.
Application Render Timing:
This is my favorite In-HMD Graph for seeing what is really going on. Using this as you adjust your in-game settings or OTT settings will show you visually what trade-offs you just made. Switch this to NONE when youre done tuning.
Nvidia Control Panel Settings (OPTIONAL!!)
For the Rift S testing and setup, these Nvidia Control Panel settings were used.
These are HIGHLY variable for each individual gaming Rig. Except for recommending Prefer Maximum Performance and trying VR Pre Rendered Frames to between 1 and 3, the rest are up to you!!!
Initial Oculus HMD Settings
The first thing you need to do is click the VR Buttonon the bottom right.
- MSAA is EXPENSIVE in horsepower. If you cant live with the jaggies, youll want to trade down in SS from the OTT app to not lose smoothness.
- If things seem slow in the Caucasus Mountains drop the TREES to below 50%
- Run your PD settings from OTT not from the DCS VR Interface
- Use the Visual Hud/App Rendering in OTT to watch the effects of your changes.
FrameTime in the low teens for CPU/GPU is your goal to keep the world smooth.
