Yellowstone season four is coming to The Paramount Network on November 7 and it has been a long time coming for fans. The season three finale ended on a huge cliffhanger as the Dutton family was targeted by anonymous assassins. The season four premiere will bring plenty of surprises and has all you need to know.

What will happen in the Yellowstone season 4 premiere?

Yellowstone season four will pick up immediately after the events of the exhilarating season three finale.

In the quite literally 'explosive' episode, the Duttons found themselves in life or death situations.

John (played by Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) were all targeted and fans are yet to learn of their fates.

Thankfully, some answers should come to light as the premiere will consist of a double-bill.

Two back-to-back episodes will air on the same night, which means two hours of drama.

But that is not the only treat viewers will be getting on the night, as there is more to come after episode two.

Right after the second episode finishes, viewers will witness an exclusive first look at creator Taylor Sheridan's other highly-anticipated projects.

They will gain more insight into Mayor of Kingstown and the Yellowstone prequel, titled 1883.

Mayor of Kingstown will be arriving on Paramount+ on Sunday, November 14, and it includes a similar family dynamic to that of the Duttons.

Meanwhile, 1883 will make its debut on the same platform on December 19, and it will be told through the eyes of John Dutton's grandparents.

With this in mind, fans of Yellowstone and its creator are in for an evening that keeps on giving.

The official Yellowstone Instagram account has been keeping viewers up to date with teasers in the meantime.

The trailer for the latest season throws up some important questions as Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) is forced to pick a side.

The opening shows a flashback of John getting shot and Beth caught up in an explosion at her office.

As word of what is happening reaches the bunkhouse, panic kicks in.

Jamie's father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton) is heard saying: "Fear, moral, those are words men invent to scare and shame."

He then refers to men taking back what they have had stolen from them, insinuating the battle over ownership of the ranch will continue.

But Jamie starts to question his father's morals, asking: "But what about right or wrong?"

Garrett replies: "There is no such thing", and fans believe Jamie may be forced to kill his real father.

If he has to choose between John and Garrett, viewers are hoping he will choose the man who gave him a second chance.

They have been taking to social media to share their thoughts on the season four premiere.

Actor Finn Little said on Instagram: "OMG!! Y'all better be sitting down for this season!"

A fan added: "Can't f****** wait for November 7. In this trailer, I see Rip hunting Roarke down, Mo kicking some guy's ass, shootout at the ranch.

"Most importantly, Jamie finding out that John was right about his bio dad and '...his black f****** heart'. Can't wait."

Hopefully, Sherdian's other two series will bring just as much excitement.

Yellowstone season 4 airs on The Paramount Network on November 7.

Kevin Costner and his ranching family will be back in Yellowstone season 4

The new, full Yellowstone season 4 trailer is stoking excitement for the next chapter of the Dutton family saga. Kevin Costner shared the video with the sly caption, "I don’t know if you’re ready for this one." We have a pretty good feeling John Dutton will survive the shooting that took place in the previous finale, but many fans are still anxious about the ranching patriarch's fate.

The Paramount Network previously confirmed the hit show's return in November. That's a hell of a wait to find out what happened to the Dutton family after season 3's explosive finale. Still, that gives everyone plenty of time to watch Yellowstone seasons 1-3 and catch up on all the wild, western action.

The drama stars Costner as John Dutton, the sixth-generation patriarch of the Dutton family, who controls the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. This is still frontier country and the ranch is under constant attack by land developers, an Indian reservation, and the nearby national park.

John's family includes son Kayce Dutton, a former Navy SEAL whose wife, Monica, is Native American. There's daughter Beth Dutton, a financier who has struggled with substance abuse problems. Younger son Jamie Dutton is a lawyer and aspiring politician. And Rip Wheeler is the ranch foreman with romantic ties to Beth.

The explosive season 3 finale left with many of the Duttons' lives hanging in the balance. No one is totally safe — not even Costner! (Kidding, he's totally safe.)

Here's everything we know so far about Yellowstone season 4.

Yellowstone season 4 release date

Paramount Network has set the Yellowstone season 4 release date for Sunday, November 7.

Fans have been waiting for a confirmed premiere date for months. Many were hoping to see season 4 drop around Father's Day, since all three previous seasons premiered in the month of June. And filming wrapped all the way back in November (though some reshoots took place this spring). Oh well, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Yellowstone season 4 trailer and teasers

The first full Yellowstone season 4 trailer is packed with action and emotional face-offs. "Don't you die on me," Rip Wheeler orders a bloodied John Dutton, who was caught in a hailstorm of bullets.

Meanwhile, the nefarious Garrett is spinning words again to his biological son, Jamie Dutton. He doesn't believe in the concepts of "fair" or "moral. "What about right or wrong?" Jamie asks. And Garrett replies, "There’s no such thing."

Previously, Paramount Network dropped the very first Yellowstone season 4 teaser trailer in early July, giving us our first glimpse at footage from the upcoming season. While much of the footage is re-edited scenes from previous episodes, we do get our first look at Rip and John in the aftermath of the third season finale.

Yellowstone season 4: Kevin Costner photos

Costner is fairly active on Instagram, where he's posted a few shots from filming Yellowstone season 4.

The first arrived in October, mid-production. "It's hard to beat Montana in October," he raves.

In another post in February, he hypes up fans for the new season. OK, but couldn't you give us a video teaser?

In April, Costner posted that he was "missing Yellowstone Ranch." But still no word on a premiere date.

Yellowstone season 4 cast

The cast of Yellowstone is led by Kevin Costner as John Dutton, a sixth-generation patriarch of the Dutton family who operate the Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch.

He's joined by cast members including:

  • Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, John's son and a former US Navy SEAL
  • Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, John's daughter and a financier
  • Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton, John's son and an attorney and aspiring politician.
  • Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, the ranch foreman and love interest of Beth
  • Kelsey Asbille as Monica Long Dutton, Kayce's wife who is Native American
  • Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, Kayce and Monica's son
  • Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater, chief of the nearby Native American tribe
  • Ian Bohen as Ryan, a ranch hand
  • Forrie J. Smith as Lloyd Pierce, a senior ranch hand
  • Jefferson White as Jimmy Hurdstrom, a ranch hand
  • Denim Richards as Colby, a ranch hand

Season 3 introduced some new faces to the ranch, but it's unclear if they'll be back for season 4. They include Josh Holloway as Roarke Morris, Karen Pittman as Willa Hays and Will Patton as Garrett Randall.

Deadline also reports that there will be new cast members arriving in the fourth season, including Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) as Caroline Warner, the "CEO of Market Equities that is trying to crush the hold that John Dutton has on his sprawling Montana ranch."

Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Kathryn Kelly (Nashville), and Finn Little (Those Who Wish Me Dead) are also joining the show's cast.

Yellowstone season 4 plot and spoilers

Yellowstone season 4 will have a huge cliffhanger to resolve, after the season finale ended so explosively. A bomb went off in Beth's office, while Kayce and John were targeted in separate shootings. Will the three Duttons survive?

The teaser has already confirmed that John survives the events of the finale. Must have something to do with the "powerful" resolution Kevin Costner claimed the character has in a local Fox interview.

As for Beth, both Reilly and Hauser have talked about her future with Rip, which implies that she makes it out of the bombing. Assuming Beth lives, perhaps she and Rip will finally make it official and get married.

That said, there's also been plenty of online speculation that Beth does die, with one Reddit thread, reported on in Country Living, suggesting that the fact that John lives makes it more likely that Beth doesn't. We have no way of knowing whether any of this is true, of course, but it's always fun to see what people think.

At any rate, fans can look forward to season 4 starting at a "breakneck pace," according to cast member White. It seems likely that the Duttons and their allies will respond to the bombing and shootings with some kind of retribution. As Hauser told Deadline, season 4 episode 1 could be titled, "Wrath of Rip."

"Everybody’s in danger in Montana after that," he said. Given the teaser trailer's focus on revenge, it seems as though the Duttons will be settling some scores.

Another intriguing storyline set up for season 4 is the tense relationship between the Duttons and the indigenous people of the area. Things look to boil over and Monica may be a key part of that, as she figures to become a leader of the local tribe.

Yellowstone prequel

Yellowstone fans are getting even more Dutton ranch action with a prequel series on Paramount Plus. Titled Y:1883, the spinoff is set 125 years in the past, before the family was wealthy or influential.

According to Paramount Plus, Y:1883 "follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land—Montana."

Y:1883 is set to premiere sometime in 2021. Check out the teaser trailer:

  • Paramount Network has renewed Yellowstone for season 4.
  • The Duttons will return on Paramount Network on November 7 for two all-new episodes.
  • Joining the season 4 cast will be actors Jacki Weaver and Piper Perabo.

As dysfunctional as they may be, Yellowstone fans can't seem to get enough of the Dutton family. Luckily, Paramount Network is rewarding viewers with season 4 of the Kevin Costner-led series, though details about upcoming episodes remain scarce. That said, we have heard some interesting info about season 4. Keep on scrolling for the full scoop on the new season.

When is Yellowstone coming back for season 4?

Paramount Network reassured fans that season 4 would be worth the wait — and they definitely kept their promise. After months of anticipation, the network confirmed that Yellowstone will return on Sunday, November 7 with two back-to-back episodes. Right after the second episode airs, keep watching for a first look at 1883and Mayor of Kingstown, two brand-new shows in the Yellowstone universe that will stream on Paramount+ later this year.

But that's not all: It sounds like Yellowstone will film season 5 (!) later this year. Show creator Taylor Sheridanpreviously confirmed his plan to write six seasons of Yellowstoneand an Instagram post from Chief Joseph Ranch, the real ranch used as a filming location for the show, revealed that cabin rentals are available through the summer since they are still waiting for Paramount Network's 2022 filming schedule.

Any Yellowstone season 4 spoilers?

The season 4 trailer sends an ominous warning: "Every body pays." In the trailer below, we catch another glimpse of the Duttons after the attacks before getting a tease of all of the chaos to come — Monica fleeing the ranch in a panic (looks like this fan theory was proven true), Lloyd taking a punch right to the face, a dangerous police chase, protests and so much more.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Ahead of the season 4 release, Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica, revealed that she wasn't sure how the show would move forward, especially since three of the Duttons were injured (potentially killed) in the season 3 finale. "The end of season 3 is the most jaw-dropping, and I'm wondering how they'll move forward. It's funny because Taylor (Sheridan) has always told us that he knows how the show is going to end and I'd love to know," she tells Good Housekeeping.

Danno Nell

Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie, is excited to explore more of Jamie's complicated past in season 4. "Where does Jamie end up? I'd like to know," he confesses. "I'm also excited to see who he really is because he's spent his whole life not really being himself. I think we're starting to get pieces of that now, so I think it's going to be really interesting to see."

Hopefully, this means the show will uncover more details about Jamie's history (his pregnant ex-girlfriend, for example), Beth's relationship with Rip and Jimmy's future.

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, has stayed quiet about what's to come on Dutton Ranch, but mentioned to Deadline that "everybody's in danger in Montana" after the bombshell season 3 finale.

Will the entire cast, including Kevin Costner, return?

Although some fans are concerned that Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes are leaving the show, it seems like the entire Yellowstone crew is on board for the fourth season. Costner, who plays John Dutton and executive produces the show, remains the backbone of the series. In the past, he's said that filming a scripted how "hasn't been an easy adjustment" for him, but he's committed because he believes Yellowstone has "gold dust on it."

Paramount Network

Unless they decide to write-off any characters, it seems like Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Forrie J. Smith, and Denim Richards will return for a fourth season, too. Only time will tell if newcomers Josh Holloway, John Emmet Tracey, Q’orianka Kilcher, andJennifer Landon will survive the chaos on Dutton family ranch.

Deadline also announced a few exciting additions to the season 4 cast:

  • Jacki Weaver will play Caroline Warner, "the CEO of Market Equities that is trying to crush the hold that John Dutton has on his sprawling Montana ranch."
  • Piper Perabo will play "a protester from Portland who is against the state funded police force that protects industrialized farming and the killing of animals."
  • Kathryn Kelly will play "a vet tech who strikes up a relationship with a Dutton ranch cowboy."
  • Finn Little will play Carter, "a youth reminiscent of a young Rip whom the Duttons gave a home."

Meanwhile, the outlet reports that Will Patton will now be a series regular. Will played Jamie Dutton’s biological father last season and is described as "a man with a murderous past who has told his son the way to wrest control of the ranch business is to kill the king."

How can I watch older seasons of Yellowstone?

If you're late to the game, you can re-watch past seasons to get to know the Duttons before season 4 starts. Even though 6666 and 1883, two of the new Yellowstone spinoff shows, will be available to stream on Paramount Plus later this year, you'll have to sign up for Peacock to keep up with the Duttons. Yellowstone isn't available on Hulu, Netflix or Paramount Plus (confusing, we know), but you can stream it exclusively on Peacock. Try out a free seven-day trial to get a taste of what it's all about and then sign up for Peacock Premium for $4.99/month to watch thousands of hours of TV shows, movies and live sports with ads.

You can also buy each episode on iTunes, Amazon, YouTube, Google Play or Vudu.

Yellowstone season 4 is not coming to Paramount in October 2021

Yellowstone Season 4 Release Date, Cast, Plot And Everything We know

Yellowstone season 4 release date: Cast, plot and trailer for Kevin Costner series

Paramount Network have confirmed a November release date for Yellowstone season four, with a two-episode premiere to mark the drama’s long-awaited return.

The Yellowstone season four teaser trailer, released earlier this year, teases a dramatic return for the show – one which series star Jefferson White has promised will be “worth the wait”.

The season four teaser trailer confirms that family patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) has survived the brutal roadside shooting that occurred last season.

We’ve also learnt that the series have added a major new recurring character: Jacki Weaver (of Silver Linings Playbook fame) will play Caroline Warner, the CEO of Market Equities.

In May, there was a casting call for crowd scenes (which previously could not be filmed due to social distancing) which suggested that filming still hadn’t fully wrapped yet at that stage.

The series follows the Dutton family, whose grip on the family ranch in Yellowstone is constantly under threat, with conflicts arising with the ranch’s bordering areas and with land developers.

At the end of season three, the Dutton family were left in a precarious position, as one-by-one the members were targeted for assassination.

Costner (who you might know from the film Dances with Wolves) plays a sixth-generation ranch owner in the show, but his family’s claim over the land is continually challenged. Family and legacy are key themes in the series, as patriarch John Dutton (Costner) struggles to maintain a grip on the lucrative ranch.

Read on for everything you need to know about Yellowstone season four.

Yellowstone season 4 release date

Yellowstone season 4 will air on 7th November 2021 on the Paramount Network for US viewers. The premiere will launch with two episodes.

It was previously reported that Paramount Network are “eyeing” a November release (via Deadline).

In June 2021, star Jefferson White teased that it would be worth waiting for, writing on Instagram, “Appreciate y’all!! Season 4 is worth the wait, I promise!!”

The message was written as a comment under a post of his character from the official Yellowstone Instagram page – with many of the show’s fans commenting begging for a release date to be announced.

In the US, seasons one, two, and three are available to watch now on the Peacock streaming service.

How can I watch Yellowstone season 4 in the UK?

Yellowstone season one is available to watch on Paramount Network UK and My5. However, the viewing schedule for Yellowstone is further behind in the UK than it is across the pond, so we could be waiting a while for season four. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have more news.

Both seasons one and two are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video UK.

Yellowstone season 4 cast

Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser and Gil Birmingham lead the cast of Yellowstone.

Costner plays patriarch John Dutton, whose family has owned the Yellowstone/ Dutton Ranch for six generations. Grimes plays Kayce Dutton, the youngest son.

Meanwhile English actress Reilly plays John’s daughter, Beth, a ruthless and loyal financier who has substance abuse issues. Bentley stars as Jamie Dutton, Beth’s brother, and in season three it was revealed that he was actually adopted.

A further addition for season four include Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), who will play Caroline Warner, the CEO of Market Equities.

Now discussing:

Saddle up, Yellowstone fans—the Dutton family drama isn't over yet. The series, which centers on the dysfunctional Duttons and their massive Montana cattle ranch, is set to return this summer, so there's plenty more to look forward to. In fact, Paramount+ will also be expanding the Yellowstone universe with two brand new shows—one prequel, one spinoff—in the works.

In September, the show shared a video with the first tantilizing hints at what could be ahead for the Dutton crew.

"The retaliation that those who wronged the Duttons are facing is one of incomparable scale," says actress Jen Landon, who plays ranch hand Teeter. Hauser had a slightly more succinct (and NSFW) take: "Everybody's gonna get f***ed up."

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

In a follow-up teaser in October, they built anticipation even further with a teaser trailer offering some ominous glimpses, including the sight of Jamie—the Dutton who seems least likely to get his hands dirty—with a gun trained on someone.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The video has fueled plenty of fan speculation as to who exactly Jamie could be facing off against: his biological father, who may be the character stumbling through the woods in the clip; one of the Dutton family's enemies, or even one of the Duttons themselves.

Here's what we know so far about the eagerly awaited fourth season.

When will season 4 premiere?

After months of anticipation, Paramount Network finally announced that Yellowstone season 4 will premiere with a two-hour special event on Sunday, November 7 on Paramount Network.

Even before season 3 came out, Paramount Network announced that it had already ordered a fourth season of the hit western drama. Filming was originally set to begin in June, but was inevitably pushed back due to the global pandemic. Production finally began in late August, with Chief Joseph Ranch, which serves as the set for the Dutton homestead, confirming via Instagram in November 2020 that filming on season 4 had wrapped.

In July, Paramount debuted a teaser trailer (watch below) for the new season along with the announcement that the show would be returning in the fall with the promising tagline "Revenge will be worth the wait."

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Later in the summer, the show's official Twitter account posted a behind the scenes video of the Yellowstone special effects workshop, explaining how they create some of the shows most literally explosive moments—like the bomb in Beth's office and the attack on Kayce that gave season three its dramatic cliffhanger ending. Check out the full video below.

The Cast

The season three finale of Yellowstone was filled with potentially deadly cliffhangers, leaving fans wondering which (if any) of their favorite ranchers will survive to carry on next season.

In December 2020, Costner gave fans even more to worry about in an interview with Good Day New York when he responded to questions about his character John Dutton's fate saying, "I can’t say. There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully it’s a powerful one for you." He added, "Just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can."

Rumors immediately started to fly that Costner would be exiting the show, with some suggesting that the actor was unhappy with the demands of filming keeping him away from his family. A representative for Costner later told Gossip Cop that the story was untrue.

The remaining Dutton siblings played by Luke Grimes (Kayce), Kelly Reilly (Beth), and Wes Bentley (Jamie), and the other core cast like Cole Hauser (Rip) and Kelsey Asbille (Monica) are all expected to reprise their roles—at least as far as the first episode of the season, in order to resolve that shocking season 3 ending.

Speaking at a Deadline event in May, Reilly called the upcoming fourth season "most satisfying" but avoided revealing how big of a role she may play in it. Hauser added an extra layer of ominous anticipation, joking that the first episode of the season might be titled "Wrath of Rip" and saying that "Everybody’s in danger in Montana after that."

The show has also announced several new cast members. Among them, Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly), who is set to portray Summer Higgins, an environmental activist from Portland who opposes the state funded police force and industrialized farming. Not a character you can expect to be popular with the cattle-ranching Duttons. "When John Dutton or Rip [Cole Hauser] want to get rid of people, they talk about taking them to the train station," Perabo told Entertainment Weeklyin September. "I don't want to be taken to the train station!"

Perabo later shared a few more details about her character's arc on the season in a video for Yellowstone's Instagram, explaining how Summer comes onto the scene as an animal activist and quickly becomes embroiled in the land fight over the new airport.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Other new cast members will include Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), whowill be picking up the Dutton family face-off with Market Equities as the company's CEO, Caroline Warner and Kathryn Kelly (Nashville) who will play Emily, a veterinarian tech who appears to be primed for romance with one of the ranch hands. Along with Perabo, the actresses are said to have recurring roles in season 4.

Meanwhile 15 year old Finn Little (Those Who Wish Me Dead) who will be a new series regular, Carter, a Rip-esque young boy who Beth takes under her wing on the ranch.

Is season 4 the last season?

So far, no additional seasons have been announced for Yellowstone, but there also hasn't been any indication that season 4 will be its last.

In an interview in March 2021, star Cole Hauser (sporting his natural light hair) stoked fans hopes for more of the Duttons with word that season 5 was already in the works. "[Showrunner and writer Taylor Sheridan] is working on it right now," he told Kathryn Hall during a Hall Wines happy hour talk. "Season five is going to be wonderful. The way we ended season four—I can't give too much away, but the way season four ends, I think the audience... will be happily surprised."

He doubled down on the indications for another season later, adding, "For us as actors, and I think I can speak for everybody... we come together. This is now going into our fifth year."

While Paramount has yet to officially confirm season 5, considering that the show has continued to pull in big ratings and that the network is already expanding the existing Yellowstone universe, it would hardly be surprising to see it continue for several seasons to come.

It's also getting a prequel and a spinoff.

During the 2021 Super Bowl, Paramount+ launched a teaser trailer announcing a spinoff prequel show, 1883, that will tell the story of the Dutton family in the late 19th century as they make their way westward to establish their Montana homestead. The show will star Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Sam Elliott.

Paramount+ has also announced that the show will be getting another spinoff, which is currently operating under the working title 6666. While details about the project are scarce, the synopsis released along with the announcement seems to suggest that the show will be set on a modern West Texas ranch, with a history just as fraught and potentially dramatic as the Duttons'. Read the full synopsis below:

Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing ... The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.

Sheridan, who is set to produce both new shows as part of a larger, multi-year deal with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group, also acquired the actual 266,000 acre property of the historic 6666 Ranch in May, though it's not clear if the real ranch will in any way feature in the new spin-off.

Along with the news of Yellowstone's debut date, MTV Entertainment Studios, the parent company for Paramount Network and Paramount+ announced that 1883 will premiere December 19, and a new show helmed by Sheridan, Mayor of Kingstown, will premiere November 14.
